There are many powerful pirate and bandit forces in Geopia and most of them are only too happy to sell those that they have robbed to the slaver barons . They will usually take their victims to distant lands to do so, that the governments or families of the victims remain unaware of the fate of these unfortunates or find it more difficult to act in freeing them.

As most nations (or at least the wealthy elite within such nations) benefit from slavery, most governments allow the practice of slavery to continue (though voices raised against the practice on moral grounds have multiplied in recent years as the masses gain greater levels of education and are freed from the burden of working every hour just to stave off starvation thanks to improved faming and industrial methods).
