I'm somewhat "fur-friendly", I used to draw lupine and vulpine anthros in middle school (80s), loved dogs, wolves, canid-related documentaries and werewolf movies. As I mentioned in a tweet - if there had been community support for it at the time, I likely would have been nearly as "furry" as I am "FA". It just didn't stick, and I grew out of it. In those days, furries in my area were largely college-age and older, and had a bad rep for being "crazy jailhouse gay", as my favorite geek historian describes.
