An updated version of a one-hour character creation from January '19.

I'm hanging in there, still can't hang out with my community and the stress and isolation has taken its toll on my creativity. Zoom rooms just don't cut it for me, partly because I live in a rental with paper-thin walls and nosy, reactive neighbours. I still have to work during this crisis because the benefits can't cover all my costs month to month and there's no guarantee I'd have a job to return to if I accepted a lay-off. My coworkers are more COVID-fatigued and less risk-averse than I am and its only a matter of time before they bring illness back with them from the next long weekend. "Go to Kelowna, come back with Corona" is the cost of summer fun in 2020. I go out to enjoy the weather by hiking well clear of other people, close to home.

At least there's the art, which is progressing slowly and sporadically. One thing that frustrates me about this project is that I tend to leave a lot of unfinished ideas and characters behind. I've made a point at the 5-year mark to reuse scenes and revise the best existing characters as much as possible before introducing new ones. Some characters can't make a comeback due to technical issues and a lack of forethought (Amy, Sam, and Val), and I've just had to move on from that.

Just like everything else, I have to be patient and use this time to get more organized and educated and move forward when the time is right.
