hhmmm ask them separatly to help you train your diplomatic skill at a wisely chosed place and time, and find a way to lock them in a room with you and your sister to talk. ask help from applejack to apply this plan if she agree with you.

Get a train ticket and go to canterlot asking to see Celestia saying spike and twilight's relationship has been fractured and ask were spikes egg actually came from.

Locking Twilight, Applejack and Spike in a room and refusing to let them out until they figure something out between them does sound like a wonderful idea... maybe ask Twilight to help teach you how to -Teleport proof- a room so that you have a room able to contain them.

Here the question is not Twilight: it's Spike. We need to find a way to Spike to realize his feelings before the date or this will end in failure so we need some previous preparations. Go back to Twilight castle and search for info about Spike and Twilight past, when the lived together. Anything will work: a photo album, a present... maybe something will be found that you can show to Spike as a proof.

Just locking the two of them together won't be helpful, it may in fact make the task even more difficult. Try to get more info on Spike's mindset and look for a way to show him that its not a parent or sibling situation.

Go back to the castle and search for clues as to what Spike felt back then, perhaps he did feel a connection with her but concluded it was as a sibbling when he was still young, he could now develop those feelings into something else.

I don't know why everyone thinks that forcing them together would work. They're not ready for the tension yet. We need to soften Spike to the prospect of the relationship first. We need to talk to Spike, but first, we need information. We need to prove to Spike that he loves Twilight. Ask AJ about their past, see if we can save their relationship with their history.
