Fly toward the ball of wind (using its suction to pick up momentum), before it hits us teleport right in front of the Roc, and use our momentum to attack the Roc with the shovel.

I would say throw the shovel to hopefully defuse the attack and hopefully cause damage, or throw the magic ore to cause the bird to choke
