Implementing "Charge Upfront" (Patreon)
Content
Here's how it work
Some creators have opted into charging their patrons as soon as they
pledge (sometimes referred to as "charging upfront"). This is good for
two main reasons:
1) As a patron, you can see patron-only content
right away and creators can start sending you any rewards that you
might have earned.
2) As a creator, you get your money faster. This will get you the money that helps you make more awesome stuff.
When you increase your pledge amount
for a creator who is charging upfront, you are charged the difference between your previous charge and your new pledge amount.
Example:
You had a pledge of $10 and you were charged $10 for that pledge. Then
you increased your pledge to $15. You are charged $5. You increased your
pledge to $16. You are charged $1.
When you decrease your pledge amount
to
a creator who is charging upfront, you are not charged right away when
you lower your pledge amount. The new pledge amount will be reflected
when your pledge renews at the beginning of the next month.
Example:
You had a pledge of $10 and you were charged $10 for that pledge. Then
you decreased your pledge to $8. You are not charged anything when you
made this change. The next time your pledge renews (at the beginning of
next month) you are charged $8.
New Patrons:
New Patrons will be charged on the day they pledge. They will be charged on
the 1st of the month for their next charge and all following charges.
Example:
A patron pledges to
Jack (a Patreon creator) on February 25th for $10 per month. They will
be charged $10 on the day they pledge, February 25th, for February
patronage. On March 1st, the Patron will be charged $10 for March
patronage.
Existing Patrons: Your existing patrons will be charged on the 1st of the month like usual.
