I've been looking at my options for creating the high-resolution Deluxe version of MVOL, and I've come to basically two options. Now, I'm making this as a special treat for you all, so I thought I'd ask you to decide how I should handle the Deluxe version.

When R3drunner made my current GUI, he actually sent me larger files, and I sized them down to fit the game as I intended to run it. I'd actually forgotten about this, but this means that I could create a straightforward hi-res version of the game with exactly the same interface that would be twice as tall and twice as wide. So if you like the interface we have already, but you like playing on a larger screen, this would be a good option for you. The big feature for a higher-resolution game is probably going to be the art anyway, and I expect it will make a noticeable difference being able to include the original, full-size art rather than having to shrink them down, then stretch it out again for a large screen.

The other option would be to make something new altogether, and in this case, I think I'd go with trying out a Metro design. Metro is a minimalistic, tile-based design that largely gained popularity recently from its use in Windows 8, to my understanding. The interface for Fenoxo's Trials in Tainted Space is a sort of Metro, and you can see a lot more examples here. I would probably use a very similar color palette to that used in the game currently-- it's sort of become part of the game's personality, and I rather like it. This style would probably look cleaner and less pixellated, since I could build it graphically from the ground up right in Flash, but it's also possible that, even if I put a lot of time into it, it may not come out as professional looking as the existing UI, since I'm not really a properly trained graphics designer. I might bring somebody else in if I can find the right guy, but I'd also sort of see this as an opportunity to make it "just the way I want it," since I think I could at least do Metro without it looking horrible.

So! How do you feel about it? What would you like to see? Either way, you'll be getting a bigger version of the game, with higher quality versions of the art built in, better suited to playing on a big, modern screen in maximized or even fullscreen mode. But would you prefer a premium version of the UI we already have, or would you like me to take a crack at a big, new Metro style? You can vote for what you think here! This vote is ONLY for the people that will be getting the Deluxe version of the game, so please make sure you make your voice heard!

Lastly, if you have other thoughts, feel free to comment, PM, or email me! Am I not being bold enough? Should I make the new, Deluxe UI something wildly different? Let me know!

maybe different colour background options?

Hey, thanks for commenting! Do you mean like reading text white on black instead of black on white, or like overhauling the overall color scheme to something besides blue?
