I got a real true request! It was a simple one, but I was so excited to have a patron really reaching out to engage. Do you have some Gaining Tips you want to share with Dylan? Feel free to join the conversation by commenting.

I look forward to completing more requests!

***In honor of this being my first request, I am sharing this video with all patrons.***

My tips would be, if you get "gainer brain", recognise and be cautious when you have it. It's like euphoria, an exciting wave that pushes you - and makes you anxious if you miss your goal, panic if you lose a pound, crash and lose your appetite and give up. People get scared of moving in case they burn off a calorie. It's not rational. In fact there's research that suggests that exercise is absolutely terrible at burning off excess calories - you can stay as active as you like, it's up to you. There's also research to suggest you will always overeat if there's a variety of food on offer (which is why buffets are so great), and will tend to overeat if your servings are larger. HOWEVER, for me, I get so much guilt about food waste that I struggle with this, so the "cheap" way to add to this is to eat your food with a strongly flavoured drink, and drink it sparingly to refresh your palate when necessary. Also, just add some slices of buttered bread to meals, it gets very easy to forget you ate it, and it's so cheap you don't get the guilts. But yeah, basically don't make your meal just one huge amount of one thing - even a side salad will help you in the long run (I've actually seen people say they felt guilt about eating salad and fruit as it was so low calorie. It's fine!) Another trick is to learn to cook, and to learn to use leftovers. That way you can cook several meals in advance, and eat as much of it as you can, and save it for later, and that bypasses a lot of guilt for me too. And 10000% echoing the "find your person, find your community" thing. I suspect that gaining alone isn't anywhere near enough to form a connection, but you will find people who bring the right stuff for you.

"Our data indicate that, contrary to received wisdom, humans tend to burn the same number of calories regardless of how physically active they are." https://scientificamerican.com/article/the-exercise-paradox/ Some people want to be fat and weak, but you don't *have* to and you don't need to be scared of movement
