How YOU have improved this channel (Patreon)
Content
I have a special thank you coming up to all of you who have helped make this channel continue to improve. Today I'm going to focus on actual physical improvements but know that your support have helped drive me to consistently produce videos and improve them at the same time.
To start things off, I have been saving up Patreon money (which I keep in a completely separate account with all purchases tracked) to improve my filming setup. As you might have noticed, my video has always lacked because the phone I have has a camera that is broken, and my only other option has been my wife's Canon Rebel T3i which can record in 1080p at 30fps, but has no options to change anything beyond ISO. No auto focus, no f-stop, no color temperature white balance, nothing.
This has now been resolved. I recently got a good deal on a Canon EOS m50 that has a ton of video features and can even record in 4k. Additionally I can now output the video feed to my monitor, meaning I can finally see easily if I am in the camera shot at all times.
Along with that I purchased some new lighting that will set my lighting situation to the correct color temperature as well as clean up my painting area, allowing me to film at better angles and myself be closer to the miniature. You can see an image of the new setup below.
Would you guys prefer 4k at 30 fps or 1080p at 60fps? Sentiment seems a little mixed so far. 4k is cropped and may allow me to have the video "closer" to the mini as it acts as a zoom, enough to have the camera actually be behind me which is pretty nice.
As I noted in my previous post, I've also had a new logo created for the channel. With that change I've also redone my end screen for the end of each video.
The channel continues to grow! I've done my first sponsored video :)
It was actually pretty neat to do. I have another Sponsored video that will be coming up down the line, and I hope to intermix these as they come up to help out the channel even more. It's also a fantastic way for me to let you know my opinions on an KS with the actual product, instead of just the campaign page.
And just in case your are curious, my opinion cannot be bought. I've never shied away from calling companies on their crap and I have enough money to buy far too many board games as it is. That's not what this Patreon or my channel is about. I'm always of the opinion that a game I spent my own money on would be more suspect of leniency than some random game. However, I never sign anything that says I can't be honest or negative in my review so regardless, there's no sponsorship I'd take that would change that.
Speaking of spending far to much of my own money on this hobby, I recently bought Kingdom Death Monster. I'm not even sure if I'll end up playing the game, but the 1.5 core box and the Gambler's Chest will net me almost 100 unique sculpts of well detailed, unique miniature so that's exciting!
Lastly I wanted to announce my merch store! You can check it out here: https://teespring.com/stores/the-king-of-average
I've put in some effort to offer more than just a coffee mug - I hope you like it! If you'd like to see something specific on the store just let me know ;) In the meantime I'll continue to add more designs - I have quite a few already planned out!
