Shrine Maiden, "Dea Vulpes"

Travelers to the small, weary village of Okinuma often find themselves beguiled by the stories of the "Fox Maiden," a mysterious woman with the ears and tail of an ashen fox who descends from the nearby mountaintop to assist the villagers when Yokai run amok.  Those who have heard those very same stories and attempted to climb the mountain to find the truth have often found nothing, for the perilous journey seems nigh impossible.  For one daring adventurer who made it to the peak, all that they had found was a small, stone shrine in impeccable condition.

The eldest of the villagers speak highly of the Maiden, as if she had been one of them once upon a time.  They often point towards the charred remains of a former home in the village as proof of the day she was "born," a protector who hopes to bridge the gap between the living and spirit worlds.

How much of that is true and how much of it is tall tales to drum up interest in the local village?  Well, that still remains to be seen...
