Chapter 197: Back at the surface

"Nami, instructions!" Requested Usopp.

"It's fine, keep going like this." The navigator said.

"What do you mean fine? We are surrounded by monsters! We need to get away from them." Buggy shouted.

"They are not monsters!" Luffy and Brooked looked at the clown with angry eyes.

"That group of whales is big enough to create a current as they move, if we try to go against it, it will be much more dangerous. Lower the sails and stir the ship in the same direction as them!. " 

"This is crazy…I swear, I'm getting off on the next island no matter what." Buggy spoke furiously 

The crew followed Nami's orders with no questions.

Meanwhile, Brook was looking at the whales with a nostalgic expression.

"So, this must be Laboon's birthplace…could there be any relatives of him here?" He asked to no one in particular.

"Maybe." Vivi stood next to him.

"Island Whales can live for several centuries so his family is probably still alive."

"Then…" He looked around. 

"If there is anyone that is looking for a whale calf that got lost fifty years ago… don't worry,  he is doing fine on the other side of the sea. He's grown so big!...so don't worry." Brook spoke as loud and clear as he could.

"You think they understood me?" He then asked Vivi.

The whales were now looking at their ship with interest.

"Who knows…they certainly have the intelligence. Why don't you try singing them a song? Even if they cannot comprehend the words, they should understand the feelings behind them." Vivi 

"Yes…I think I'll do that."

Brook took his violin out and started playing a familiar tune.

"Yohoho, going to deliver 🎶 links sake 🎶

 following the sea breeze 🎶 riding on the waves 🎶 "

The whales got closer as Brook sang and the Sunny entered the current they had created, following them along.

The whales seemed to enjoy the song, and then, they all changed course at the same time and started to ascend.

"They are going up now !" Sanji pointed out.

"It seems like they are taking us to the surface. " Added Robin.

Luffy looked at the closest whale and smiled.

"You guys are giving us a ride? thanks!"

The whale seemed to wink its giant eye to him.

Soon enough,  they started to notice the waters getting brighter.

"We are close to the surface!" Cried Chopper.

"Finally!" Buggy was actually crying.

"The New World!" Luffy looked up with excitement. 

The ship emerged out of the waters while surrounded by the whales who cried in celebration.

"The surface!, I missed y- what is with this weather?!" Usoop was startled by a series of loud thunders. A violent storm was brewing in the sky.

"Yohoho, what a massive thunderstorm!" Said Brook.

"The wind is very strong." Robin pointed out.

"The sea is raging!" Exclaimed Franky.

Nami was starting at her log pose.

"The needle is completely off."

"Is that a red sea?" Asked Chopper.

"There is a surging wave of flames over there! " Sanji pointed in the distance.

"Looks like the entrance of hell." Zoro looked happy.

"How nostalgic…" Muterred Vivi.

"Get me out of here!" Shouted Buggy.

"This is great!" Luffy smiled.

A short time later, the whales went back underwater,  leaving the Strawhats alone in this raging sea.

"There is an island that way!" Usopp observed from the highpoint. 

"You mean behind that wall of flames?" Asked Sanji.

"No, no…the wall of flames IS the island! "shouted Usopp with a worried expression.

"That sounds exciting. Let's go there. " Ordered their Captain.

"Wait, Luffy. This is very weird, none of the three needles are pointing to that island. This has to be unusual, even for the New World."

"Who cares about the needles?, we can see the island with our own eyes." Responded Luffy, not finding the problem. 

As they got closer to the island, they were able to spot more details.

"Look, there is an active volcano!" Chopper pointed.

"The waters are on fire!" Said Nami.

"This doesn't make any sense." Commented Zoro.

"Luffy, I have some bad news. " Sanji approached.

"Remember the fish we had caught?, the one that almost resulted in the cause of all our deaths?"

Luffy nodded.

"Is it cooked already?"

"Are you seriously thinking about eating right now?!" Buggy looked at him in disbelief.

"Well about that…" Sanjo scratched his head.

"Is burned…"

Luffy gasped and ran to the back of the ship. He then saw that the giant fish had been turned into charcoal.

"Is been burned to a crisp!. "

"The fish got burned in the ocean?" Usopp exclaimed .

"Well, we are surrounded by fire. This is becoming like an oven now." Said Zoro.

"So, our ship is going to burn next!" Cried Usopp.

"No way this ship will lose against something like this, hahaha" Franky said proudly.

"Is not really a competition," Robin said softly.

"This ocean is crazy, look!, All the fish around us have been turned to bones." Said Nami.

Vivi went next to Buggy and patented him on the back.

"So, this is your new home? seems nice."

"What are you talking about? " 

Buggy said with a frown.

"You said that before that you were leaving on the next island, no matter how it was," Vivi recalled.

"Yeah, I heard it too, you did say it! " Added Chopper.

Buggy wanted to curse at them. Now he was going to have to stay with this crazy crew for longer. There is no way he was staying on this fire island.
