Chapter 83: Venturing into the island

When she found them, the three of them were facing some weird dog with three heads.

Vivi landed between them, surprising the dog quite a bit.

“Vivi!” Cried Nami.

“Oh, thank all the Gods!, we are safe now!” Usopp had tears in his eyes.

“How did you guys go from sailing a boat to landing in this ditch?” Vivi asked. She honestly didn't remember every single detail.

“Careful!” Shouted Chopper while pointing behind her.

She didn't need to turn her back to know that the dog was going for a bite. Animals were easier to read with haki since they always make their intentions very clear. Even one with three heads.

She turned and grabbed the low jaw of the dog with her left hand, before this one could bite her head, stopping him in his tracks.

The dog was surprised, but quickly recovered. It closed its mouth on Vivi's hand with a hard bite.

Even though Usopp, Nami, and Chopper understood how her ability worked, they could not help to gasp and grimace at the sight or Vivi's hand being crew on.

Vivi removed her hand from the dog's mouth before reforming it. There was some saliva attached to it.

“Ugg..gross.” She made a disgusting face. “You know, I really like dogs, but I have to admit…you are quite an ugly one.”

The three-headed dog seemed to have understood the insult and all three heads growled at her before it went for another bite.

Vivi moved away from her spot using soru to the dog's side. She then punched the side of one of the heads with all her strength.

“Go to sleep!”

The dog's three heads were slammed together against the wall with a loud noise, knocking them down.

“Wow!” said Chopper.

“Fuck!, she is almost as much of a monster as Luffy or Zoro now!” Exclaimed Usopp.

“She has gotten so strong…“ Nami was honestly surprised, they all knew that Vivi was getting physically stronger, but they didn't know how much she has progressed.

“Okay, let's go” Vivi walked by them. She walked for a bit and noticed that they weren't following.

“Do you guys want to stay here?”

That took them out of the shock.

“NO!” They all shouted.

—---------------------------------------------------------------

After leaving the moat, they found themself in a thick forest.

“What do we do now?” Asked Chopper.

“We can't go back with the boat, because Nami lost it!” Said Usopp.

“Hey!, I already said that I was sorry!” Shouted Nami.

“Calm down, even if you still have the boat, you would never find the Sunny with this thick fog surrounding the island. Besides, I'm sure that Luffy and others are already on the island.” Said Vivi.

“Yes, I bet Luffy could not wait to come here and explore the place!” Exclaimed Nami.

“That too. But the main goal here is to recover Brooks's shadow. Without it, He cannot join our crew.” Explained Vivi.

“Wait, the skeleton?!...why does Luffy want him in the crew so badly? I don't get it.” Commented Usopp.

“The Captain does silly things sometimes, but He is a great judge of character. Im sure Luffy has seen something in Brook that he liked.”

Vivi then spotted someone clinging to a tree branch while observing them.

“And you are?” She asked while looking at the new face.

They all followed Vivi's gaze to the creature. It looked like a small man with bat features. He was also wearing a black robe.

The little man chuckled. “I'm surprised you could spot me that easily. My name is Hildon. This forest is very dangerous, why don't you come with me to the mansion? My master always loves visits.”

“Your master?” Asked Nami.

“Yes, Dr. Hogback,” Hildon answered.

“Dr. Hogback?, I know that name!” Said Chopper with excitement.

—----------------------------------------------

The carriage ride to the mansion was peaceful enough.

Vivi was sending a lot of creatures all around them but they stood away from them.

“There are many dangerous creatures out there. Even going for a walk is dangerous.” Said Hildon.

“Yeah, like that Cerberus dog! If it wasn't for Vivi we could have been in serious trouble.” Said Chopper.

“Is that so?.” Hildon gave Vivi a careful look.

“Will I be able to meet Dr. Hogback?” Asked Chopper.

“Who is that Doctor anyways? Is He really that famous?” Asked Nami.

“He is! All doctors know about him! He is a very famous surgeon.” Chopper was all excited talking about the doctor.

“Because of his miraculous operations, He saved so many lives. Doctors around the world gather to honor him!... Then, one day, He disappeared.”

“He disappeared? just like that?” Asked Nami.

Chopper nodded. “People called it the disappearance incident or the kidnapping incident. In the end, no one could find him and his name became  a legend.”

“That is him, right?” Chopper asked Hildon.

“Indeed! The famous doctor ended up on this island to continue with his special research.” Hildon answered.

Nami started to look out of the window.

“Would it be okay if I ask for an autograph?” Asked Chopper.

Hildon chuckled. “I'm sure the doctor will be happy to give one to you.”

Suddenly, Nami gave a yell.

“What's wrong?” Asked Vivi.

Nami pointed outside. “I saw a lion with a human face!”

“What are you talking about?.” Usoop went to take a look and saw all sorts of strange creatures outside, like trees with human faces, a unicorn, or a giant worm with an ugly face and big teeth.

“Whoa!, there is all sorts of crazy stuff out there!.” Shouted Usopp.

“That's probably your imagination. The dark forest can be very scary and the mind can play some tricks.” Hildon brushed off their concerns.

“Hildon, can you turn this around and take us to the coast?” Requested Nami, who was not feeling right about their decision of visiting the mansion.

“But I want to meet the doctor!” Complained Chopper.

“Chopper, sometimes your ‘something is wrong’ sensor. ” Said Usoop.

“You three need to calm down a bit. We will end up in that mansion anyways. We may as well travel with some comfort.” Said Vivi.
