Also, something I hadn't caught before was that when Ymir died, she ended up in the place where the paths connect. But there were no paths, it was dark. Once Rose, Maria, and Sina ate her spine, three paths lit up (four if you count the trunk, which I would see as representing ymir herself). It would have died with her had they not passed it on, and she could have not had to be a slave for that ungodly amount of time.

FYI remember all the details of this show. Go back a look at erens words when he was fighting annie at the end of season 1. Eren clearly says "I will destroy the world". Well he meant it.
