I’m confused. I’m someone who watched season 1, the mugen train movie, and went straight to the entertainment district arc, was I supposed to watch episode 1 of the train arc?

I guess you missed out on what Rengoku was doing shorty before getting on the mugen train. Its worth a watch but not mandatory

It provides some additional context into Rengoku's character and how he ended up on the train. It's worth the watch but not absolutely needed.

The 1st episode of season 2 is right before Rengoku boards the train. It's a nice episode and hits the feels after having seen the movie. You should definitely check it out if you haven't yet
