The final scene is very impactful. Everyone is enjoying their time and are excited to see the sea, except Eren. He's haunted by the memories of his dad and since he already saw the sea through the memories, he's not surprised. His dad's memories stole this moment from him, the moment to enjoy the see with his friends.

It was so sad the 1st time I saw that particular scene with Eren just staring into the horizon knowing what he has to do in order to achieve the one thing he ever wanted for him and his people, a chance of freedom.
