Shruti watched the OG for the first time and enjoyed it. This one was epic standalone and was made even more so by the nostalgic callbacks to the 1st film... Definitely a 2022 must-watch! It's Tom on 10 lol 😂

I'm amazed how accurate they depict the aircrafts systems and translate it to the editing. The radar and other sensor screens they show are accurate and actually line up with the scene. Like it shows a radar contact and you can see the line indicating its heading and Tom actually looks out his canopy in the correct direction towards the radar contact. Only weird things I saw were in the HUD with the gun piper acting odd and locking onto the target but I thinks that's so the average viewer knows "he got em" great film. We probably won't see something else like this for a long time unfortunately.

By the way pardon me nerding out a little. Couple cool things you might not have caught. The plane they steal is the same kind Maverick flew in the original an F14 Tomcat, it's interesting because the only none US country to have them was Iran which we sold them not long before declaring them trouble and cutting ties, oops. This essentially confirms the enemy in this film is Iran and explains why he could fly their planes. During the takeoff Tom pulls a lever that manually controls the wingsweep, (which is normally set to automatic based on speed) he widens the wings so he can gain more lift at a lower speed and takeoff on the shorter runway. And the coolest trick is in the canyon dogfight. The F14 has 2 engines each with its own throttle lever, these are almost always linked together because you want to control both engines equally, but Tom unlinks them allowing him to max one engines thrust while lowering the other, this creates "differential thrust" in one direction which can if used correctly force the aircraft to "yaw" more in that direction and thus turn sharper to avoid the bandits gun. These are all real tricks that only experienced F-14 pilots would know (and nerds like me)

2023-06-14 18:37:21 That's incredible!! We knew Tom does his own stunts but this is next level. Appreciate you taking the time to explain the ins & outs of the scenes especially the takeoff and dodging of the F14. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙌🏾
