Amber and I saw Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children last night. We both enjoyed it. Some sequences felt as though they worked better on paper than they did in film, but if you're willing to give in to the whimsy of the story it's a lot of fun. The trailers have made it clear that Miss Peregrine can turn into a bird. Honestly, I found the sequence was more Transformer than transformation. But there is another metafeminine moment that surprised me that I wanted to share. Mind, some could find this SPOILERY... Near the end of the film the children are pursued by a villainous woman. She remains mostly clothed, but she removes her lower garment and it is revealed she has the lower body of a lemur, with handlike feet and a tail. We see her use these a little bit. She is defeated when she sees gorgonesque faces, which turn her to stone. She puts up a hand in fear and the camera lingers as she petrifies. She then falls from a ledge and shatters. A short scene, but certainly a reason why I would gladly see the film again! ~dS
