So, as I enter the home stretch on Re-Entry editing, I've decided to start working on covers. So far, I can't say I really love either approach, but hey - you've got to start somewhere. As most of you know, this will be my first self-published novel, and I hope to release it within the next month or so. First, the blurb:

Re-Entry is a hard sci-fi novel with a focus on realistic technology and fast paced action sequences, featuring Sergeant Emanuel Guthrie, a soldier from our not so distant future. Combined with his power armor, he and his unit are some of the deadliest soldiers ever known to man. However, when he volunteers for a mission unlike any he's known before, he finds everything quickly goes off the rails.

Alone, with no idea where or when he is, he must face off against threats that range from the bestial to the utterly alien using weapons that run the gamut from x-ray lasers to fire hardened spears. In the end, despite his battle suit and his AI assistant, the only thing he can really count on is himself, and whatever friends he can make along the way as he tries to complete the mission and get home.

The First cover was my original

The second is a bit more retro.

So far retro is winning, but I think I will try a few other things first. Suggestions/feedback/ critique welcome!

Like the second one. Might add a decal or a unit number on armor (thinking about halo), or add some extra color for a pattern if being stealthy is not a priority (thinking about space marines from warhammer).

Number one is WAY too Master Chief

I agree. That's the problem with AI. Power armor is either Iron man or Halo. There's no in between. Thank you for the feedback though. I continue to make progress!
