A few updates

  • The end of Death After Death is in sight. I don't know how many of my Patron's actually read that satirical Isekai. That's only book one of course, I'll need to do a book two, but I need a break first to think about it. That will open up a hole in my schedule for the next book, Golemancer, in any case.
  • In Tenebroum, the time skips are about to come back. I can't remember if it was a comment or a review that said, "Most dungeoncore stories eventually become city simulators, but I don't expect this one will." Well, for a few chapters here and there that might appear to be the case, but I assure you it is not. It's just - the plot needs a few things, and there's a lot of war recovery to happen, so I'd ask for your patience and feedback on some of those points, especially if you think the tone shifts too far. The first arc of this story is about 50 years, more or less, and though I know a certain Tree isekai does that by chapter 2, but I think 30ish chapters is just about right for me on that front.

(Also, I should note that I just finished writing Ch. 29. I have a new favorite chapter. Maybe I'll do an extra chapter toward the end of January, so my fine readers don't have to deal with the Ch. 29-30 cliffhanger that is developing...)
  • Ironically, even though I have no desire to write a city simulator, a lot of the games I've been playing recently are in that vein. Frostpunk. Surviving Mars. At heart I'm an RPG guy, but rimworld is a gateway drug to some unlikely places. Whenever I play frostpunk (which is a great game,) it makes me think about what a dungeon core equivalent would look like. What the stats would be. How you would upgrade, and what the consequences would me. It's funny, because you could argue that the whole genre descends from games like Dungeon Keeper, but in between now and then it's mutated so much that it's barely recognizable, and now there's really no video game equivalent that I'm aware of.
