Akashita (赤(あか)舌(した), lit. "red tongue") are depicted as a beast with clawed hands and a very hairy face covered with dark clouds, but its full body appearance is unknown. In its opened mouth is a big tongue.

Akashita is an incarnation of omen of bad luck. A protective spirit for others.

During droughts, water sometimes was stolen from farmers, a great crime that could cost their livelihood. If the perpetrators are not punished by law they will punished by Akashita. It will appear and swallow them with its giant red tongue.
