[pictured above, the top videos for the last 30 days]

When I talk about viewership dropping on the channel, a lot of that isn't my active subscribers, but the fact that I used to have evergreen videos. I'd be actively uploading stuff, but whenever I checked my analytics, the month's top videos tended to be stuff like State of Decay 1 & 2, Outer Wilds, The Witness, Divinity Original Sin 2, Disco Elysium, We Were Here, Return of the Obra Dinn, etc.

They just kept going! Living lives of their own for months or years after release, and there's a good chance that their popularity is how a lot of you got here, especially before my essays on the other channel brought in a ton of furries.

At some point though, they all died off. My most popular videos are pretty much always stuff that I uploaded that month, which can be a little scary? The idea that my library of 18,000 videos (yes really) no longer has an enduring lifespan, algorithmically at least. Nothing I've made in the last four years has achieved that kind of evergreen status again, it seems.

Except Disco Elysium. It just keeps creeping its way back into my top 10 lol.

So yeah, I was immediately tempted to make a second playthrough of Disco Elysium back when I beat it. One where I make all the worst choices probably, as a fascist, to see how things change from the communist playthrough. And then it got a voiced re-release. And now this. I remain tempted.

Alternatively, ya'll have been eating up the Fear & Hunter playthrough, and its sequel, Fear & Hunger 2: Termina, is right there. An unusual situation made possible by the first game getting so much attention so long after its release. I don't normally play sequels to games right after the previous one, but we certainly could.

The biggest concern seems to be that the game might have updates coming in the future, which we would miss.

I'll save myself some heartache and get the censorship mod this time lol

Next up is FFXVI. People seem to love it? I honestly got blind-sided by it, schedule-wise, having completely lost track of the fact that it was coming out. Whoops. I hated FFXV, but FFXVI sounds like a departure from what made that game such a mess? The combat director of Devil May Cry 5? Okay!

I'm curious about it. Though this is the game which, if it loses this poll, I'm most likely to simply never play unless it comes back via the regular Patreon poll (after Fallout: New Vegas or something). Not a mark against the game. It's just that, like most AAA games, if I miss its release window I'm likely to stop thinking about it altogether.

Finally, inevitably, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.

I've covered Yakuza 0-5 and Judgment, with the intent to eventually cover them all, just like with Dark Souls, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill. They've been a wild, rocky ride. I've played at least one per year, with the goal of upgrading to two a year so I can better catch up.

After we "finish" Kiryu's story in 6, we've still got:

Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon

Lost Judgment

(I had to cancel Yakuza: Dead Souls because it's blocked for copyright on youtube)

Next year's Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

aaaaaaaaaaaand

Like a Dragon: Ishin!

They did a remake of one of the previously Japanese-exclusive spinoffs, so our path through the series is once again nonlinear. I wanted to cover Dead Souls between Y4 and Y5 because that's when it was released chronologically. Funnily enough, Ishin was originally released right after Y5, which is where we are, so the remake has pretty great timing! Bummer that they seemingly skipped right over Kenzan, the other similar spinoff.

So what are you feeling, ya'll?

Just try to vote based on what you'd actually watch, and not on whatever game you think is unrelatedly cool. I'm a little worried that between Fallout: New Vegas and Planescape: Torment, people maybe voted on LEGENDARY NAME in both cases but then didn't want to actually sit through the reality of a playthrough of those games. Multiple episodes of Planescape haven't even passed 400 views months later, which, honestly, I didn't think was even possible anymore.

I don't mean to sound bitter lol, it's just bad news for you as well if you don't have anything to watch because you get buyer's remorse, and then have to wait months for that series to go away.

Definitely Fear and hunger 2!

I'm unsure of how well it would do views-wise, but I'm finally getting around to 'I Am a Teenage Exocolonist' and would put it up there near Disco Elysium and Citizen Sleeper — no exaggeration. The game received almost universal acclaim when it was released last fall, yet failed to reach the popularity of its peers. The name and screenshots do it few favors, imo, as the experience is far more mature and nuanced than I expected going into it. 'Exocolonist' is rife with opportunities for insightful commentary, which has always been a staple of your channel. 👍

I've nominated "I Was a Teenage Exocolonist" before, I'd still like to see that!

Voted Like A Dragon:Ishin. Hopefully one of these days Sega puts these on a Nintendo platform.

Now it might just be my phone or something, but it does say check all that apply and is only allowing to check one option. So I'm not sure if the voting option thing was set wrong for not being able to select multiple, or as I said potentially just my phone doing something weird. Either way, thought I'd point it out just in case you didn't know, or if it was set wrong or something.

As entertaining as I find your videos, FFXVI is a movie simulator, I'd love to hear your thoughts, but it's so narrow with only bursts of gameplay. It's fun, but it's a cutscene with gameplay elements.

Jonathan B.

Multiple choice is working for me within the iOS app. Have you checked for potential app updates?

Eviltwin01

Gotcha. I just tried on desktop and it works fine there. Just wasn't working on my phone I guess just kept switching the vote over instead of selecting multiple. Got a pixel. Maybe a problem on that.

i mean kinda, the devs said there are 11 hrs of Cutscenes and the game mainlining it is about 33-40ish hrs so there is at least 2/3 to 3/4 gameplay just by virtue of numbers its not that bad (Plus the story has been for me at least quite good and i def like it more than 15) And ofc if you do side quests it jumps to like 60 hrs so there is more content there. It really just comes down to how much you like the story i guess on how you receive the cutscenes

I ultimately went for FFXVI as I've been eating up content for that and love seeing different people react to it. I'd also be very into either Yakuza\LaD game but I didn't check those because I'm not caught up on the others you've played and I'd feel bad if they were chosen and I didn't immediately watch those lmao.

The issue I have with a lot of let's plays is that I don't have nearly as much interest in watching a game I haven't played myself. So of the list, FFXVI is the only one I'd have much personal interest in seeing you play. The others are either ones I'm hoping to eventually play myself, or don't have much interest in.

Julia

I started to watch Disco Elysium, went to play myself, got back to your videos and never finished it. It's a lot of repeating dialog. So your second playthrough might be not so different after all.

Morridini

I'm probably in the minority, but I never watch anything I haven't already played. Which means anything hot and new will not get a view from me untill a long time has passed, time for it to drop on price, for me to work through my backlog and finally play it myself. Also, hot new games is already covered by a ton of other YouTubers. Why not something older? There's so many good RPGs with few good let's plays out there.

2023-07-04 13:43:56 I recently played DE:TFC as a total lunatic (fascist apocalypse cop heavily focusing on shivers, electrochemistry and half light) and it was a really fun yet bizarre playthrough! My vote still goes to F&H2, because I really enjoyed the chemistry and commentary between you and Toaster.

Exocolonist is really neat. The name clearly didn't do it any favors. I also felt it was too long for a game that's clearly meant to be played multiple times. It felt like it was going for a "Long Live the Queen"-Type gameplay, where the choices are difficult and a good ending is hard to achieve, but hampers it's replayability with it's length and the need to manually walk around to perform tasks, instead of doing things through quick, handy menus.

I know F&H is editing nightmare but the first game was so intriguing and fun to watch. But if Disco wins is good as well imo.
