I've rolled credits on Inscryption and the ending is set to air in a couple of weeks. The question is, should it be the finale? The choice has been made more complicated by a few developments.

First of all, there's a beta DLC created by the developer called Kaycee's Mod, which seems to turn act 1 into a proper roguelike. I think it's supposed to be generally harder, but it also may be pretty similar to content we've already experienced.

I could also try looking into the ARG, though I'm not entirely sure what form that would take. I definitely wouldn't be solving it myself, as that's not how ARGs work, but I could recreate some of the steps maybe.

Generally speaking I just take for granted that I'll cover a game's DLC if it already exists when I'm covering the base game, but that's less of a clear choice when the additional content is divergent bonus stuff as opposed to content that is a direct continuation/integrated into the campaign. So I figured, why not just ask you?

Kaycee's Mod might be better saved for a later time, or maybe a live stream.

The ARG stuff is good fun, but it’s one of those things where I found what I could during the initial playthrough and went to the internet for an in-depth breakdown of the ARG after the credits rolled. It’s your typical Daniel Mullins goofiness — not bad, but also not Deus Ex. 🤷

Livestreams are not a secret backdoor method for bonus content in an existing series. It's extremely rare that I solo stream at all.

Sorry wasn't implying that. I haven't been able to catch any of the streams so I wasn't sure what you did on them. Like I said I'm happy for a new game.

All of those multiplayer videos that go up last each day, minus Stephanie, are 100% of the streams. It's just me hanging out with my friends. I started streaming them at some point because often times everyone else was and people would ask why I wasn't. If you keep up my regular uploads you miss nothing from my streams other than worse editing and audio.

Far enough. Sorry if I came off trying to push something.

*minor spoilers for ARG* If you wanted to, I think an episode covering some of the ARG would be neat since it's the extension of the story. But beware at least one of the solutions in the ARG Google Doc is outright incorrect (the bonelord puzzle, they show how to edit the file incorrectly and straight up doesn't work if you were to show it, and also the solution involving the cabin roof is not the intended solution by the developer).

I'd love to see your take on Kaycee's Mod for at least a couple runs, but I don't think you want to commit to all of it. From what I've messed with, it seems notably harder.

Agree with Stephen on a few runs of Kaycees mod for shiggles, but other than that, yeah fine to move on.

Not that this likely matters with the vote ratio as it is, but I didn't really care about you doing the ARG, just Kaycee's mod. But it looks like we are getting a new game in two weeks anyway, and I certainly do not mind that!

SebastianSB

It's fine. It's just a reoccurring comment that when I discuss logistical constraints people often say "just stream it" as a workaround, but streaming and let's playing are not meaningfully different concepts for me.

Kaycee's Mod feels like it would have the usual roguelite problem of not having a good stopping point. There's 12 challenge levels of increasing difficulty, and it starts a bit harder than the main game. Beating all 12 would almost certainly be too hard/take too long. At level 1 it's almost identical to the main game, new stuff gets unlocked as you go up the challenge levels.

I would love an aditional, single episode about the ARG. Just a quick look into it, but not extensive.

Doing a full run of the Kaycee's mod is not ideal. A lot of people will lose interest. But I would like if you could do 1 episode just going through the first few challenges and give your thoughts on it.
