So uh, it just occurred to me that some people technically never got their Patreon rewards, in a way? Due to the new schedule on the channel, and the new schedule for voting for a Patreon chosen game each quarter, we can end up in odd situations where a game is voted for but my supporters but doesn't appear on the channel for quite a while.

And since we're now voting for our next game, it's kinda absurd that some people never got to see the previous one. By which I mean there are people who are pledging the minimum amount, so they get to vote, but they aren't in the tier for Early Access let's plays, so they haven't gotten to see the series they voted for.

So here's a bonus post a few months later that can be accessed by all supporters. Maybe this'll be what I do if I finish uploading the most recent Patreon Chosen Game but don't have a release schedule planned out for it, either.

Parts 1 to 3 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh5A7M1qgO8

Parts 4 to 5 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcaZjQ2ndqg

Parts 6 to 7 FINALE - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV9xK3IvkZ0

For Early Access supporters, this series aired from April 15th through 30th.

How does this whole mess work, anyway?

Well the point of the new schedule was to allow myself to be more flexible with what I put out when, while uploading fewer, longer videos overall. Part of the idea here is to be able to cover new releases immediately when I want to, in an attempt to have some successful videos here and there, since they haven't been doing great lately.

Mixed results!

Right out the gate, Dragon's Dogma 2 had impressively low viewership despite seemingly being exactly what people would want to see from me, based on the history of the channel. The Talos Principle and Elden Ring DLCs are also both kinda flops. Even the Undertale fan game. Huh.

But Riven has really taken off, so I'm not completely insane I guess. That's why I prioritized spamming out the Riven videos every other day and put other stuff on hold to enable that. Now that that's done, it's time to get back to airing Lorelei and Elden Ring, and I'll find the time in a week or two to record the third chapter of the Talos Principle DLC.

Once the current glut of new releases is cleared I can get back to making my Patreon backlog public in vaguely chronological order, probably. It is a little surreal to have an entire secret Yakuza game playthrough that I finished ages ago but most people can't see yet lol. But I guess If I'm going to let people pay Streaming-Service-Lite prices to me monthly, it's at the very least a good thing that I currently have exclusive content on here for, uh, 14 games by my count. The longer a game gets trapped here via accidental logistical guff, the more of a perk it is, I guess?

On that topic, my backlog is currently larger than it's ever been, I'm pretty sure. I think that's because I'm probably pretty paranoid about keeping the Early Access people happy? I kinda added a new stressor lol. Normally I could take a week or two off from recording stuff if I was ahead enough, and focus that time entirely on writing my next video essay, etc. But I feel obligated to maintain this new, additional audience now. I think that's why there's such a disparity now, with so many videos where I have no idea when I'll release them.

The fears are founded, too. When we weren't able to produce Password videos regularly, I watched my income drop rapidly as people explicitly unsubscribed from here for that reason lol. Which just led to me panicking and doing Glory Hounds with Bird. But then Toaster coincidentally came back for more Password at the same time.

This isn't about guilting people into supporting or anything. Just being honest about how this all works, and what I'm juggling all the time to make a modest living. Don't let the millionaires that youtube puts on your front page trick you into thinking this job is easy money lol

Always curious to see when it comes to new releases how people's views generally trickle in. I could understand to a degree that people for Elden ring DLC for example won't look for videos/playthroughs to watch of it until they finish it themselves. So that could explain a partial amount of the early low viewership, especially since it's an open world type game. And more linear games it's easier to know how far ahead you are and you can start watching earlier. But with Elden ring being more open, the viewer starts watching the video in the area they completed and can watch you in, and then you go direction by coincidence that they haven't gone yet and then they can't watch further until they play more. Just kind of the nature of these kinds of games I guess. Because I know that's what I do with games I want to watch let's plays of. I play a certain amount and then I watch that same certain amount afterward, with elden ring it's a little more difficult. But I could see with Riven for example due to it being a refresh of an old game, people are way less worried about spoilers if they've played it before, so I guess there's that potentially. And lastly I'm always curious with new games as to if the viewers typically stack up on the later end as they finish the game/dlc, to make up for the fact that they were slow when it first came out when they were playing it themselves.
