Don't worry the pacing does Improve later on. Originally this was meant to be a 1 season anime but its success garnered a season 2 so alot of the early stuff seems rushed because they were trying to get through the origins and into the main conflict as soon as possible without skipping important Info. Season 2 is a lot better paced as you will see

Tbh its from here on out, this is where its established that Lelouch's strength as a character doesn't solely rely on pure coincidental luck and having that cheat code "Geass" power to move the plot. Just like y'all said last episode, his Geass power can't work for sht in some situations. So what else can he do? He relies on his intelligence and his tactics, but also (as shown in this episode) its his charisma that also works as a powerful tool. He needs an organization and as a leader he is very competent. Shouldn't be surprising cos he's born royalty. Lelouch's speech at the end is my fav of the entire series in my opinion.. cos its one of the few where some of it is genuine passion from his heart. His statement of "standing up for the weak and powerless" is obviously something very personal to Lelouch with the quick flashes to his sister and the emperor during those words.
