All four elements have things that the fandom has dubbed "sub-elements"; for Fire it's lightning-bending/redirection, for Earth, at the moment, it's sand-bending. This is because sand is basically extremely tiny pieces of earth/rock, even in our world. So that makes sense. I'd give more info but I don't want to spoil anything. Keep watching for more ;)
