The exposition in the beginning was just giving context of what happened up until now in the story to explain current and future events (If you know your European history. Don't look it up haha).

Also it's implied that he only knows the word run in English because it's what everyone says when the Vikings raid. Thought that was a really great addition.

Glad you guys seem to be liking it. It really starts picking up in the later part of the season but for now you are mainly gonna get a bunch of mini story type of episodes but at the same time progressing the main story as well. Later part of the season is just full on main story progression.
