Have you seen any of the classics like Akira or Ninja Scroll? They hold up really well and have had a big influence on anime. I don't know how deep your inner weeb goes so I figured I'd mention them since they are older movies.

We watched Akira but lost the recording for the reaction. We didn't really like Akira that much though. Never heard of Ninja Scroll though

All of the movies/trilogies I'm going to name are all 9/10 if not better imo. -A silent Voice. Wonderful character drama. Standalone. -Kizumonogatari Trilogy. Movie 3 in particular is damn near a masterpiece. Should watch the series prior to it. -Fate/Stay Night Heavens Feel Trilogy. Also a spectacular trilogy, but the third movie isn't out yet. Should watch the series prior to it. -Promare. Interesting aesthetic, fun banter, etc. Standalone.

Koe no Katachi/A Silent Voice. Easily my favorite anime movie. It’s not a hype battle movie so if you’re not into that then this probably isn’t for you (though I’d still like to see what you think of it). It tells the redemption story of a boy who used to bully a deaf girl in elementary school and how those events have changed him and the people around him since then as he tries to atone for what he did. Beautiful soundtrack, beautiful animation (it’s Kyoto Animation what do you expect), and an even more beautiful message.
