The Hightowers are very powerful in the 'A song of ice and fire' novels but 'Game of Thrones' cut out a lot of mentions and potential scenes of Hightowers. However, they are still massive players. Margaery Tyrell mother is Alerie Hightower. The Hightowers join the Tyrells in supporting Renly. The Hightowers seat is at Oldtown. The city is also notable as the site of the Citadel, home of the Order of Maesters (where all the maesters get trained to become maesters), as well as the Starry Sept, the former center of the Faith of the Seven in Westeros (it has since been supplanted by the Great Sept of Baelor in King's Landing). They are pretty damn power in Game of Thrones but more from the shadows and the lord of Oldtown tried to be neutral to the war so that is why you don't hear much about them.
