The whole point of wirbels story was to tell frieren that he didn't get inspired by himmels heroic tales of fighting the demon king but rather the whole village he was from really laughed and enjoyed the tales of him doing random side quests to help people out. It connects back to the flashback they showed where Eisen questioned himmel saying the small things they're doing are kind of pointless and they won't change the world. However, they did change the world because they inspired people like Wirbel to become mages and fight against demons

She did pass Denken, you guys were talking when she said it so you didn't pay attention to it. I think she passed Ubel mostly because of her ability to use her imagination in a way that allows her to cut through almost anything, even things imbued with defensive magic, but she refused to talk to her because she didn't want Ubel to empathize with her and learn her favourite spell.
