Hiromatsu is Toranaga's general, grandfather to Fuji and father to Buntaro. Buntaro is Fuji's uncle. The 'Old Whore' wasn't advising Toranaga. She was saying that he is not stupid enough to leave the garrisons exposed and ton be caught of guard by his brother's army trapping them. She believes he has a secret plan, that he allowed his brother's army to 'gain the upper hand' and that is why she was bargaining because she believes he has a good chance of coming out on top and thus benefit her business. Yabushige is currently the Lord of Izu (a territory in Toranaga's Kanti), that is why he looked confused and concerned when Toranaga's brother mentioned he wants Izu as a potential offer.

What is keeping Mariko going is her loyalty to her husband and Toranga. She is not allowed to kill herself without permission. She is ordered by her superiors to live. Otherwise she has nothing else stopping her. Her disobeying the order to continue living would be extreme dishonor and disgrace.
