Comments

Tara M. Wilcoxon

Tons of awesome movies on this list! I'd like to add (unless I missed it on that list): "The Haunting" (1963 version) and "The Uninvited" (1940s, I think, but it stars Ray Miland among others.

Movies With Marty

Thanks Tara! That's down to you guys being so awesome. Ooh yes! I've heard good things about them, so will add them now! I'm not sure if I'll update this list consistently too, but I'll try to. Technically I do have Letterboxd that I've tried to keep up to date too, but there may be some missing on there. I'm glad you like the list! You can see there's plenty of love for the classics too

Tara M. Wilcoxon

“What We Do in the Shadows” is another recommendation. It’s a mockumentary about vampire friends who live with each other. So funny! Anyway, have a wonderful evening and week!

Tess

Good taste on all three of those, Tara! :)

Tess

Oh my, all my 'thinking aloud' request ideas are up there, lol! I know I only get one so I'll say 'Boy'. It's a beautiful, touching, funny little film and semi-autobiographical for Taika Waititi, who spent childhood summers with his Māori family; he plays a version of his father in the film. It's set in the 80s too, so my GenX self enjoyed that!

Tess

When I saw someone else suggested The Wicker Man, it gave me an idea for you, Marty. (No worries if you're not into it, of course!) The Wicker Man takes place on May Day, which is central to the plot. You could time your reaction to air that day! There are other seasonal films, besides Halloween and Christmas, that could potentially help you plan out your calendar. Another one is Midsommar (right there in the name of course--midsummer/the summer solstice). Anyway, just a thought!

Movies With Marty

Oohh yes, a group of friends that I used to work with recommended this to me a while back and I kept meaning to watch it, it's another Taika Waititi production isn't it? (from memory) Apparently there's a film and TV show? Which one do you think is better or are they both similar? Should I watch both on the channel? All the questions haha! Thank you so much, have a wonderful day too. If you're around for the livestream later, then I shall see you there

Movies With Marty

Ahh yes! Tess, your "Boy" request is the one in the requests list ;) I remember writing that one from your mention of it before! Another Waititi film that's meant to be great, so I am definitely looking forward to it. PLUS, the 80?! YES! I love the 80s. I love that there's a lot of your thinking aloud ideas there too haha, we all have great taste!

Movies With Marty

This is a fantastic idea! Thank you for letting me know, as I wouldn't have known otherwise. I don't tend to pre-look up films for certain days, unless I hear anything about them or am curious to the plot. Like the fact that I'll be doing "Easter Parade" (1948) for Easter, but that one's in it's title. I'll definitely try to aim for May 1st. Oh god, yes! I love the sound of Midsommar but it hadn't twigged that it meant the time of year. I kept thinking like the TV series "Midsomer Murders" (spelt different, I realise now) - Thank you so much, I love to get ideas like this. It does very much help me out

Tara M. Wilcoxon

You should watch the movie first. Both Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clemente star in it. The series is funny too, so you should check that out. Sadly the upcoming 6th season will be the last one.

Movies With Marty

Brilliant, thank you! Would you say the series is something to watch on the channel? I didn't realise there will be 6 seasons!! Good to know though, maybe I'll do them over time. But yes, film first! Thank you Tara

Tara M. Wilcoxon

The series (based on the movie) is definitely worth watching on the channel, yes! I look forward to more of your reactions! Just discovered you over the weekend with your reaction to "Moonstruck"!

Maggie

Oh my gosh! So many exciting reccs on this list! It's a little less known but I would love to see 'Interview with the Vampire' TV series Marty or if you're looking for more film reccs (I know those are easier haha) - I'd love to see your reaction to Titanic if you haven't seen it? 😊🩷

Movies With Marty

There are definitely some great gems on there! Ooh wait, is that the 2022 series? I'd heard about this some time ago, I thought back i n 2018/19 so maybe it was word that they were making it. I haven't read the novel nor know anything about it, so that will be different. With that and "What We Do In The Shadows", knowing it's about vampires too, it seems we'll have quite a bit of vamps on the channel at some point or another haha. It's a shame I don't still have my vampire teeth... hmm, might have to buy some more now haha. Oh no, I'm so sorry Maggie! I saw that many years ago, but I do really love it. Both Leo & Kate give superb performances in it. Feel free to ask for other films though if you'd like and thank you so much for the suggested request 😊🩷 I hope you're well!

Megan Anne

Wow! I highly recommend Good Omens on your suggestions list. David Tenant and Michael Sheen are amazing. Jon Hamm is also great in it. Created by Neil Gaiman. The first season is based on his novel, and the second is original material. Just got picked up for a 3rd season! I also second a comment mentioning What We Do In The Shadows. Both the movie and tv show are incredible - can't go wrong with either. Some of my favorite comedies of all time. The show will be ending next year with its 6th season.

Movies With Marty

Brilliant Megan! I've got it on the list now, it looks amazing! Quite a few people have mentioned it to me this past week haha. Oh cool, I didn't know it was a Neil Gaiman show. I definitely need to get on that one at some point. Beautiful! What We Do In The Shadows does look brilliant too. I think I was told the film is what I should watch first over the TV Show. I didn't realise it was still an ongoing series! Some friends mentioned this show to me some time back, I just never got around to it 😅 Probably a good thing, as now I can see it here!

Tess

Another idea for you -- maybe you could do a poll of the suggestions, to find the ones your subscribers are most interested in, especially if more than one film/show could be selected by each individual. I don't know if Patreon has a poll with that capability, though. At any rate, it could help you sift through that long list!

Movies With Marty

Thank you so much Tess, that's actually a really good idea. Once I've got things a little more sorted within a week or so, I'll definitely be implementing more polling to diversify the films chosen. When it comes to series, those I'll do on a different poll together I think. It still means I'll do them all, but just in an order of what people may prefer seeing first. The only ones that may not be used for these however are the Patreon requests, but maybe those can be done as their own poll to see which one comes first. Thank you so much for the great idea. I'm really wanting to streamline the way I'm doing things at the moment and whilst I've got it sorted quite well, the polls will make it easier to know what people would like to see first

Megan Anne

I've noticed that Good Omens fans have a lot of cross over with fans of Our Flag Means Death. That probably explains the sudden onset of recommendations!

Movies With Marty

That's probably very true actually. It has been a lot more recently since posting the series. Plus, Tennant in Who could have also spurred it on. Probably a mix of both

Mel Dase

oh my goodness, The VVitch and Midsommar are two of my favorite films, I am so happy and excited to see your take on these two in particular! The whole list is packed full of fantastic films and shows... what a treat for us!

Rob

Dear Lord. You'll be still doing reactions from the grave!

Movies With Marty

Haha!! Yeah, it does seem that way, but I am planning on ramping up filming more of them as soon as possible. It's been a weird one the end of last year into this year with personal stuff, but I've got a few filmed so far. I just need to edit them. It's just getting the time to both record and edit the videos together that takes a while 😅 Thanks for sticking with me though Rob! It means a lot!

Movies With Marty

I'm glad to see that there's some films on there that you love Mel! Yeah, I've heard SO many people talk about Midsommar, so will be very interested in seeing it as it looks amazing. Thank you!! I've got so many that I can't wait to sink my teeth into (no puns intended for one I haven't put on the list, What We Do In The Shadows - I need to add this)

Tara

Couple of suggestions (with huge apologies if you've already done them or already got them on the list): - Charade (1963) - Some Like It Hot (1959) - Victor Victoria (1982) - What We Do In The Shadows (2014) - The Fisher King (1991) - Almost Famous (2000)

Movies With Marty

Thank you Tara! Much appreciated and no problem at all. I know it's a bit diffcult navigating the whole list (it's difficult for me too, unless I use "control find" haha. From what I remember on the list, I believe Charade and What We Do In The Shadows (both TV series and film) are on the list. As for the rest, I shall add them now as I don't think I've seen any of them! I thought I'd seen "Some Like It Hot" and I know of Almost Famous from the posters (but haven't seen it). I hope you're well and thanks again!

Laura M

I've been hesitating to make a suggestion since you have more than enough to deal with here already! (And also I don't want anything to distract you from watching Good Omens ASAP!) But I'll throw out a couple of things that you can consider in a few years or decades... Movie: Noises Off, 1992, Michael Caine. Light and fluffy comedy about a theater show, with a fantastic ensemble cast. TV show: Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (the 2016 one with Elijah Wood). Very underrated but crazy good. (And crazy.)

Movies With Marty

Hi Laura! Ahh, thank you haha. Yeah, I've definitely got a few to go from the immediate list, including completing a GV series that was requested some time ago and hadn't got around to yet. I'm a few episodes in, but those potentially may only be posted as uncuts up on here for now. Yeah, Good Omens is one of the things I've also been starting on, alongside catching up with the few Patreon requests left on the list. I've been sprinkling in a few others from the main list though, one of which is coming soon. Ooh! Great idea with Noises Off, as I've not seen that yet I don't think and I love Michael Caine's work. However, you are a legend for that second request of Dirk Gently as I LOVE that show, but alas I've seen every episode multiple times as it's a huge favourite of mine. I didn't think I'd be seeing that in the suggestions as I wasn't sure if many had seen it! The US version with Elijah Wood is definitely the better one, it's 100% more crazy and so so good!! You've got amazing taste haha. The weirder it gets as the series went on is just perfect! I'm glad you love it as well. I just wish more people had heard of it. Definitely a top odd TV show for me in my favourites

Laura M

Haha that's awesome! Most people never even heard of that Dirk Gently show, or just think it's weird. I suspected you had superior taste but this confirms it :-)

Movies With Marty

Exactly! Friends at the time had no idea what show I meant. They said it sounds weird haha (which it does from the premise). I'm so glad to have found someone who loves it! Ahh thank you very much, I do love that kind of thing. Im glad to see you have impeccable taste too. Two other shows I'd recommend with a similar oddball/crazy feel is the show "Happy" (again, not many know of it) or maybe something less comedic but an odd premise is "The OA" which is a little strange, but great and the last Season goes really wacky

Laura M

Ooh, those are new to me, thanks!! I will definitely check both of them out, I've already downloaded the first The OA episode :-)

Movies With Marty

Fantastic! Out of the two, I feel like "Happy" would be most like the barmy nature of Dirk Gently, but The OA does have that heavy Sci-Fi theme to it. I hope you enjoyed it! Also, I have to say that "The OA" is incredibly slow in the first episode and doesn't seem at all like a Sci-Fi show at first. But it starts with an odd style to it in comparison to how it continues in future seasons.

David Wayne Fox

I mentioned them in your Easter Parade comments, but for more Judy Garland, Meet Me in St. Louis and A Star is Born (1954).

Movies With Marty

Thank you so much David! I'll add those to the list now. I've been meaning to check those out for years too. I hope you're well!
