Hey! I got 4 pages of the next comic "In Too Deep" thumbnailed, and I wanted to spend some time working towards the next animation. I've mostly got daisy's rig together. some weight painting i wanna clean up a bit more, but so far there have been 0 snags on this one. Everything going smoothly (minus my pinky hurting from holding control so much lol)

Anyway! Wanted to give you guys an update! Enjoy your weekends.

(i posted this on twitter as well, but the resolution there is about half this)

As with all the animations, when it's complete, it'll be exclusive to the ☆☆☆+ tiers

The neck spinning got me. Nice rigging though, can't wait to see more.

Ahaha, the pinky pain. I know the exact feel, though it's using my ctrl key on a very badly optimized MMO hotbar for a couple of hours. Also that's some good work, and it seems you've nailed the process too, which is good.

Now I'm curious what software you're using XD

Oh, this is blender, softwares free but it’s got a bit of a learning curve . I make the sets for the comics in there as well

InsomniacOvrLrd

Yeah it doesn’t take much for my tendons to start complaining, but stretches and breaks help. And thanks! Weight painting is a slow miserable process but it’s all working, and that’s a huge improvement over last time lol

I use blender for video editing. Oh wow, guess I should learn how to animate 2d from there so I can do that to every pic I comm'd in the past from other people XD What resources do you use for learning those skills?

tohjoma

That looks amazing ! ✨👀

It wouldn't be a trivial matter to just take a finished picture and then animate it. You need to isolate every overlapping bodypart and draw what's behind them. so when things move there aren't any gaps. You also need a picture that's designed to be animated in this way, as anything going towards or away from the camera will be very difficult to get looking good with this method. This technique is the combination of a bunch of stuff, from rigging, weight painting, the technical side of blender animating, and the artist side of animation fundamentals. You could learn it, but there's no singular tutorial i can point you to, unfortunately

I've seen an animator get by the "draw what's behind them" requirement with creative workarounds and deforming... but yeah, so sad there aren't any decent tutorials :( Thanks for replying though! Looking forward to the WIPs hehe

I can definitely see a swallowing animation coming with this

she's doing a little dance--

What do you use to make these?

Nice. Also, “In too deep” the next main tale right?
