Feeling froggy in the alleyway

bullfrilly hasn't gotten any love in quite a while, so it was fun to bring it back~

One of the few plant creatures so far, too! I really ought to make more, but i'm a bit stumped. I don't really wanna do "cactus with a face", you know? So it's difficult to stick foliage onto a creature and be like 'it's a plant gator'. But who knows~ People like plant buddies.

What about an Audrey 2 or Piranha Plant kinda deal? Tentacles with a mouth or mouths?

I’ve considered it! To be honest, I haven’t been sure whether or not to include creatures that are mostly plant, like an animate cactus or a pumpkin or a tree with her face, etc. But Venus fly traps do exist, and Audrey 2 has been the inspiration for a ton of creatures in media. Definitely worth considering, I really do need more plants

Well are there any rules on how buddies are designed so far? Can they evolve? Are the elements they can be defined and do they have weaknesses like the franchise that shan't be named? I think I noticed a while ago that not many of them look like they could be a fighting type... or more that there isn't a good expy for bla or luc... unless Pyrubis could evolve into fire/fighting...

Also, for plants, perhaps an algae swarm animating a water blob around it could be a sort of slime buddy? That'd be a plant/water type, if buddies are dual type, I can't recall.

I didn’t see this comment. I wish patreon’s notifications were like, actually usable. I haven’t gone into it in a comic, so there’s no official word on the lifecycles of the creatures. Having said that, in the world doc they do all have a couple life stages, egg-based reproduction. The ins and outs of creature compatibility are a mystery at the moment, though. An algea buddy is a neat idea, actually! And i don’t have any truly amorphouscreatures yet either. For a creature that kind of bodytype though, there’s coyodune and frozunny at the moment, but that’s about it. Creature elements aren’t 1:1 either. At some point i need to like make an infographic to explain some of this stuff, but atm it’s all just wip behind the scenes stuff.

Wow I completely missed or forgot about Coyodune, I love that one! I'd love to see what elements there are too, if I remember right the P Trading Card Game trimmed down the element types significantly so it could be a useful source of inspiration. Plus weaknesses are fun. I just think it's fun when there are some bully buddies that need to be shown a thing or two by a buddy that has their weakness. And for Algea buddy, while not Algae there is a Plankton blob character in Jojo part 6 (Foo Fighters) and there are bioluminescent algae that could create cool glow effects like in https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uqJbUKEPgXc
