Fun Facts for Ep3 - ever wonder why the girls (or rather all these kids) have sidearms? And are so quick to draw? I'll leave it to the imagination but I doubt they have lived easy lives... - they way they split the episodes and allowed for ever moment to have its time is amazing, most animes adapt 4 episodes per volume, 86 has its first 10 plus one original episode mostly covering the events of the first volume, and the reminding 12 covering the next two volumes. - in the documents room, Annette's mask will actually prevent you from breathing dust (plus she wears a jumpsuit) but Lena's is a very poor choice of mask to prevent dust. - Remarque was the author of "all quiet on the western front" if you haven't read it, it is a story of the loss of youth on the battlefield and the horrors of war. Poor taste indeed. - as she did in ep 1, Lena uses the word "Zannen" when commenting on Kaie's death. The translation given is "sorry" but a more nuanced translation is more "how unfortunate" or "condolences". The meaning is very detached. Like something you'd use when a buddy fails a test or misses a flight. You can be the judge on how appropriate it is, but there's a reason why in both ep1 and here in ep3 that it's the trigger word for people on the receiving end. It demonstrates how detached Lena feels she is from the atrocities that her people have committed, and to me... she totally deserved Theo's outburst. He wasn't just lashing out, he was calling her out rightfully for how little she thought about what she represents to them. And yes, she asked for the cat's name before theirs...

I don’t think Lena necessarily deserved what Theo said. It’s true that she wasn’t handling the situation as well as she thought, but she’s not the reason they’re fighting or the reason that “millions of people have died”. She does have a savior complex which prevents her from viewing her actions as wrong regardless of her intentions, but even the anime is aware that this was not an appropriate reaction from Theo.
