Youtube comment about that prison side story: As a reader of both the LN and WN here, I just about lost it this episode. This story arc is where the LN and WN diverged to a ridiculous extent. The reason why they diverged so far was because the WN went completely off the rails and lost the plot to an extent that the author completely wrote themselves into a corner and also left absolutely no route for it to possibly keep up the venire that Cid is unaware of the influence he has on these events. The LN fixed all that and brought the story into a more logical direction that keeps up the plot thread that the story was supposed to go down. So, what does this episode do? It decides to do BOTH! The anime freaking takes the plot of the WN and has it be things Cid was doing on the side during a montage, and somehow without messing it up badly enough and allowing things to keep on track with what the LN did. I absolutely lost it during that montage. Only WN readers would know what that was, and the comments Cid made after finishing that flashback montage were pretty much calling out the exact issues that the WN was criticized for during that arc. It really was amazing, and it shows the staff working on this series really know their stuff. I don't think I've ever been more surprised to see the way the anime decided to adapt something after I've already read the source material, and I am also so glad I actually read both so that I could understand exactly what it is they just pulled.
