This arc had some of the more interesting concepts that Tatsuya had to breakthrough. Attack/capturing spirits as well as surpassing the magic Parade. Both of these opponents are normally not targetable if this were a game. Fairly creative of the author to use these obstacles to make battles more interesting.

The one complaint I have about this arc is how they skipped a couple of character moments. Naotsugu (Erika's 2nd brother who dates Mari) was supposed to show off his skills a little here defending Tatsuya. Unfortunate it wasn't animated.

Might as well mention, but Tatsuya was still using Decomposition when he makes those bullet wounds. He's just trying to disguise his magic when he's fighting in open areas like this without cover from the military.

I think you misunderstood what was being said at the start of episode 8. Tatsuya was saying that the Yotsubas took care of the USNA 's military. His confusion was pertaining to how quickly they wiped out the enemies, which is why he surmised that Maya was ready with her troops around the same time Tatsuya made the call to Hayama.
