Yeah, the initial match between Ye Xiu and Yu Wenzhou was mostly more live-action nonsense, especially with the confusing GGs and inhaler stuff 😂️ In the novel, Yu Wenzhou is known to have slow hand speed (APM), compared to other pros. Topping out at 200 APM, he's likely the slowest in the entire League. I think that's why they have him stretching his fingers here a lot, though I'm not sure why they didn't just come out and say it, what with all the other exposition. He did have to overcome a lot to make up for his lack of hand speed (in a game that requires a lot of inputs). This is where his tactical acumen and extensive game knowledge comes in -- his ability to plan several steps ahead and so reduce the need for quick reactions etc. Of course, despite all that, he still doesn't participate in one-on-ones often, he leaves all that for Shaotian and the rest -- his main value is in the team competitions, which is how he's led Blue Rain to the Championship a few years back.

In the novel, the different teams don't train together for obvious competitive reasons. Instead, each team maintains its own camp and research dept, with its own software, regimen, etc. (Though I suppose it's not unreasonable to have an IRL scenario where there's a common camp and then all teams recruit from that camp with further specialized training afterwards) Their respective guilds hunt for promising "normal players" in-game, make them an offer after some evaluation, and then adopt them into the club's training camp to bring them up to the pro level. Yingjie is a budding genius like you said, so good that he's expected to succeed as Captain after Wang Jiexi retires, inheriting the Witch character Vaccaria. Anyways, glad to see y'all meet the Magician, Wang Jiexi! (... again. You met him already in ep 1's match) He's another major fan favourite. (Glad to see the notebook too, ha!)

In the novel, Wang immediately figured out that Lord Grim was likely Ye Xiu, mostly by examining Lord Grim's "crude" play style (his words). And with a keen understanding that there are very few players in the League with the necessary deep knowledge and hand speed, to effectively play an Unspecialized character, even if they were armed with the Umbrella, and defeat pro players. And one of those players happens to have just retired, likely bored af ... Of course, Steamed Bun Invasion's Bricks are legendary! Striking fear into the hearts of all his opponents.
