Astute readers and fans of the Monster Prom franchise might recognize one of the hallmark features of Hex's backstory here: Two extremely demanding yet extremely supportive dads who expect the best out of their little alpha only-child son. Unlike Damien LaVey, however, Hex's dads genuinely want him to secure a place in horror movie legacy, and NOT have him undergo a journey of self-discovery if it leads to, you know, anything but being the next Pyramid Head. Which sucks for Hex, of course, because he's more like the next... what's the name of the nerdy girl in Jennifer's Body? Yeah, her. *sad Hex voice*

Hex facts: Hex is ethnically Chicano and a trashy SoCal boy, that doesn't come up anywhere but. Look at him. The man listens to Sublime AND Sublime with Rome, which he thought was a cocktail someone made up until he was informed otherwise.  He is SoCal incarnate. Fun Hex fact: He's actually trans coded. YEAH I KNOW WERE THE TATTOOS AND PEC PLACEMENT A GIVEAWAY?? I actually really did NOT wanna do any kind of reveal at ALL on Hex and he's *coded* as such because A) my weird little headcanon is, if Hex's parents were wealthy horror royalty, Hex had so much self-esteem and cashola that he was able to pull a full 180 medical transition at a young age, B) the helmet never comes off. Ever. It's his face, period. and C) There is something MAGICAL about the trans coding of stealth characters from the 90's I'm obsessed with. See: Giant essay I've been working on about Randall from Ugly Americans. I wanted Hex to be a silly little mascy dude but also have all the hallmarks of someone who's, like, transitioned so easily he doesn't fucking think about it, but - canonically he's cis, because look at the man trying to wrap his head around basic facts, LMAO. My lil' himbo. Anyway. It's weird to think about, but you can totally headcanon Hex as your trans blorbo, too.

Other fun Hex facts: He's named after my OG Death Knight character (F in chat for Andi's WoW career, death knight never took. warlocks 4 lyfe.), Hexecutioner. She was a gal, so, fuel that fire there. :P His three-hearts chest tattoo is actually a low on life power tattoo, the last heart has a tiny sliver of filling left! The eagle & stars were meant to be generally WW2-inspired navy tattoos, but the eagle's based on the seal on the captain's hat item in Fallout 4. Down with the Enclave, up with anarchy, etc etc! Bonus tattoo facts: Traditional Americana tattoos were popularized by tattoo artists doing work on sailors in the South Pacific during WW2, even though there's a HUGE tradition of other tattoo work in other cultures & countries (like, Whang Od was just featured in Vogue if we're gonna talk about fucking icons of tattooing), what we consider Traditional Americana was a total Hawaii-in-the-40's thing! Folks like Sailor Jerry and Ed Hardy got their start tattooing at that time, and the only inks used were blue, black, and red, so I try to keep my tattoos (in my illos) that are trad in those color schemes for A) accuracy and B) as a little nod to Ed Hardy cuz my BIG TATTOO BRAG is that I have an IRL tattoo from his son, Doug :V
