The monologue at the end was from Yuichiro (the twin). It was his message to Muichiro (mist Hashira)

People often get confused by the monologue at the end. Perhaps it's because it came a little out of nowhere and wasn't lumped together with Muichirou's backstory, but from the way the person speaking addresses Muichirou by his name, it's clear that it's his twin who is speaking, though the fact that the voices of the twins are done by the same voice actor doesn't really help to distinguish them on first watch. If you go back to watch it again, you'll see that in the last part, they showed all of Yuichirou's expressions when Muichirou was turned away from him during their fights, and he had tears in his eyes. Like Tanisha said, the monologue is thus Yuichirou's inner thoughts being revealed to us, and shows us what his true feelings and motivations for being so harsh were. It was because he wanted to protect his naive, kind-hearted brother from the world, which he did when he instantly jumped btw Muichirou and the demon that attacked them. I hope this helps!
