“The ysleria of the Caliphate either live in the main named  cities, random oases, or for the most part, the warrens - carved under  the villages, deep beneath the dunes. These have few access points to  lower the risk of shatal infection.

Warrens are grown from the (greatly) lahm-enlarged remnants of  an agglomeration of people sacrificed (more or less willingly) to  provide a solid structure. They usually bear a simple number to help  distinguish from one another like “Warren O-12” if it's in Ombrelune  territory or “Warren R-4” if Rivesac.

Unlike cities, they usually only have a couple tens of  thousands souls there; so yes, quite tiny places dotted around the  place, and only placed on the most detailed maps. Roughly 15 to 20%  inhabitants live in the village above, and the rest in the warren.

And don't be mistaken - it might look pretty but the air tastes  stale and humid, and if you live right under the opening, you’ll  welcome daily sand showers.”
