Dear diary, I just started a Discord server… (Patreon)

I never cared to keep up with technological progress. Whenever I stop to take a look around, it always feels like the world has advanced 20 years in the blink of an eye. Case in point, I’m still using a beat-up tablet produced so long ago that when my pen broke down, I couldn’t find a replacement cause no place in the world was selling it.

The last few weeks though, I’ve been experiencing what you might call 'an existential threat'. The overwhelming popularity of AI has finally made me stop and really think about my current position. How should an artist go about building their career in this day and age? Hell, how to just make sure you survive even? The immediate impact to most might be small, but give it another few years and I’m scared to even comprehend how much influence this technology will have over the lives of artists.

I decided it was finally time to change. Nut up or shut up.

The first step in my plan to survive the AI apocalypse is having a Discord server. I’ve been advised to do so by many for some time now, and I finally did it. I learned about Discord, set the whole thing up, and launched it in just a day. For many, it might be nothing. To my brain though, it was a trial by fire trying to understand webhook and categorizing different channels.

The server is a way for me to build a stronger following, which is the key to my plan. But I also intend for it to be a place where I can passionately share all the random stuff I’m interested in at the moment with anyone who might care. I’ve always wanted a place like that, sounds awesome!

The hard part of starting a server is done, but I think the even harder part is maintaining it. Keep it alive and growing, and make sure everything wasn't a complete waste of time. That seems like a real challenge, a real investment of time and energy. But I believe this will work, and I’m going to make it work.
