Please ,watch rm feat so!yoon “smoke sprite”

Shell Whitt

I really watch the time to jump on and watch your reactions. They are a great highlight to the day.

Tanya perez

Kimchi is usually served cold as a side dish. The traditional one that V, Jin and RM made is my favorite. I never tried the other types. I have a cousin whose wife is Korean and they have a special fridge in their garage just for kimchi. She and her mother spend almost a whole day making it and filling up the fridge She taught me how to make kimchi fried rice and I make it often , sometimes with beef, shrimp or chicken. It is so delicious. 😋 Lucky for me I live a mile away from an Asian grocery store so I can buy kimchi and all the ingriedents for Korean cooking and Korean veggies are different from here in the USA. some are larger. 😊

Itami

Our radishes in asia are much bigger lol. Also kimchi really has to ferment, because it is a type of pickle

Itami

The head chefs in BTS are Jin and Suga and the chefs are Jungkook and Jhope XD

Nikolina

Summer " what if it jimin and RM that would be bad " 🤣🤣🤣🤣 i cannot wait until you get to a later cooking episode where they are indeed together 🤣🤣🤣 pure CHAOS and absolutely hilarious

K

I'm surprised yall didn't know what kimchi was...? i thought yall mentioned going to a Korean restaurant before lol

Izzah Wani

Is it just me to feel offended on hearing that making kimchi looks like organs??

Zahraa

Jin and Suga are the senior chefs, JK is the junior chef, J hope and Jimin are the sous chefs and V and RM are clearly not the best in the Kitchen. I'm surprised you guys don't know what Kimchi is, since it's a well known Korean side dish usually made with veg, most commonly cabbage, the red in the paste is Red Koren chilli pepper called gochugaru (not tomatos) you can also make soups and other food out of it. It's also a tradition for families to get together and make big batches in the big buckets like they did in this episode.

Laira

They are so endearingly chaotic every time they are put in a kitchen and Hobi’s obsession with his radish heart…. I love him so much. In regards to Kimchi: Don’t knock it ‘til you tried it ;-) it’s delicious, versatile and great for your gut. It’s a side dish (which are called banchan) and commonly added to almost every meal. So “kimchi” is the whole thing not just the paste, but the vegetables (most commonly napa cabbage or radish) and every other ingredient. They are talking about the fact that the radish kimchi isn’t ripe enough yet (hasn’t fermented enough), usually Kimchi tastes better when it has had time to ferment. We have sauerkraut in Germany (which, personally, is not for me), but kimchi hits the spot differently. I excited to see if you try it at some point.

taz

kimchi is the staple side dish in korean meals. it’s so good, and it has good nutritional value. people also make these huge batches of kimchi because, if stored correctly, it can last a while.

Nikolina

They said they plan on going to a kbbq but havent had the time yet . Until i started watching kdramas i had no idea either what kimchi was 😅

j

Kimchi has many health benefits including being a fab probiotic, great for skin, fight inflammation, etc... that's why Koreans look so young for their age. It is a spicy side staple in Korean households and restaurants (similar to how in the west you would have ketchup/ranch/mayonnaise/tabasco with your food). Also, it is fermented since people didn't' have refrigeration few thousand years ago when kimchi was first introduced! xoxo :D

Emma

That was specifically about the napa cabbage kind though - which yeah, it kinda does, especially the way it was being filmed.

ravel

Now that you know what kimchi is, you're gonna notice how often it comes up in BTS conversations, those boys feed themselves of ramen, rice and kimchi mostly. And to answer, they did a LOT because it's kinda tradition but also it's logical, kimchi is so hard and long to make, it's easier to make a bunch of it and it lasts for long since it needs to ferment. What they did could have fed ppl for weeks at least without going bad

Nana

when i discovered bts and had 0 idea about Korean culture it took me a while to figure out all these things, when i lived in Korea for a year back in 2018 i had a hard time eating spicy food (kimchi included) but now I'm absolutely obsessed with it, always have a container full of kimchi in my fridge!!

Izzah Wani

Kinda disappointing to hear it . And the fact that Summer was laughing out loud about it . Felt kinda mocked.

Emma

If you guys are familiar with sauerkraut, it's kinda similar, but made with red pepper powder. There's like dozens of varieties, using different veggies and spice levels. I really like the standard cabbage kind, but the kinds with radish (I think those bigger radishes are less bitter than what we have in the states) and cucumber are my fave. It's a nice way to get some probiotics in my diet since I don't like yogurt.

tannie misser

I was about to comment this too, i was wondering if i was overreacting but seems like others feel the same way too... I get that they don't mean malice and new things can be surprising sometimes but making faces and saying things like that feels a little.... yikes

GirlFun03

For the folios video on YT. You should definitely react and watch each of theirs photo-folios behind scenes. For each folio is one video of behind scenes on Bangtan YouTube so you should check them you will see proper introduction to each photo-folio 🥰💜

CJ

Imho I just think it was an honest genuine reaction. It wasn't meant to be offensive or disrespectful at all. Methinks. And that's why I watch their videos because they give genuine reactions and commentary without any intent to disrespect. That's how I see it. ☺️

Zahraa

If you guys really want to learn about the SK culture I recommend watching K dramas in your own time, I got into BTS before I started watching K dramas, but BTS alone didn't teach me much about the SK culture because they don't really interact with 'outsiders' on their shows. Kdramas show work and family relationships and also the History of SK through their historical dramas, among other aspects. If you guys want recommendations I'm more than happy to help💜

Chloe

As someone not Korean that have tried making Kimchi from scratch.. this is like 10% of the work that goes into it. And I can proudly say, I am not doing it again. Lol

Chloe

If you're trying Kimchi for the first time, I recommend that you do it at a KBBQ and with samgyupsal.

CJ

Yes! I think they would enjoy Alchemy of Souls and Twinkling Watermelon (about musicians). ☺️ I'm down for kdrama watch party! Also Hwarang ofc!

Koobi.

I agree with this 100% Ngl it made me want to stop watching .. it’s just about being considerate of other people cultures .. whether there was no malice intended .. the comments should’ve just been kept. I could never see myself reacting to them making Colombian food and making so comments

Isa

Thank you for this reaction! I live in Korea and Kimchi is not my thing but I do eat it at restaurants, it's just not my favorite (it's not the taste, it's because it's a bit too spicy for me!). I wanted to add that Jungkook IS a cook (since Summer mentioned that he isn't). You'll see it more later on with In The Soop but also know that he often gives us recipes and cooks during lives. :)

Nikolina

I mean its their first time seeing something so different. I doubt we all have pleasant reactions when we watch all the different types of food there is around the world . She didnt say something bad it was just very weird looking to them . The first time i saw people eating raw fish for example i couldnt even look at it.Its something very different and it was their first time hearing anything about kimchi. Chill

Izzah Wani

So if it was my first time seeing mexican / columbian food and I say it looks like diarrhoea is okay? Since its my first time seeing something different…

Yasmine SB

Radish kimshi is so good with some rice and you pour a bit of toasted sesame oil on it.... And the kimchi fried rice is also a banger, you can eat it with great steak or a good grilled chicken or fish.. I introduced my mom to kimchi and now she's addicted to it, she needs to always have it in her fridge and using it while cooking by add it in any sauce or boiled veggies or pasta... You can use it in many ways, just like pickles but way more spicy... The korean spicy pepper is definitly my favorite.

Nikolina

Its not like we can all agree what dish looks good and what doesnt. Im from greece and there are definitely some dishes that if people saw how they were made they might say it looks like organs because of all the sauce and meat parts. Im sorry but i dont see how thats offensive. Some people are just sensitive about food and some people are more ok when seeing stuff like that. They have said many times they want to actually go to a kbbq and try authentic korean food. I dont believe they would ever say something intentionally disrespectfull

leat

lol i loved that RM put his arms around Jin while saying it takes time for a man to mature, the same goes for kimchi.

Izzah Wani

Well, lets just agree to disagree that, for you its not offensive and to me it is . Simple as that. I feel like its exhausting trying to put my point through. If you dont find it offensive then so be it . Tho im not full korean, it is still my culture and im offended. End of story.

Melissa Alameda

I get that the intention behind the comment wasn't mean and I'm not going to hold it against them. But I was disappointed in the moment especially since historically Asian food is mocked by being "weird" or "gross". I know in the end they said it looked good so hopefully as they learn more about Korean culture there won't be comments like that or faces made.

K

even though they didn't mean to be disrespectful about it, it definitely left me feeling disappointed when i saw their faces turn up and then summer saying it looks like organs...yeah. didn't feel great.

Kath

Rewatching these cooking episodes after watching Tae cooking in Mexico in Jinny’s Kitchen… I’m just soooo so impressed with how far Tae has come! 💜

Nikolina

I get what you mean. Its not my culture so i can see how thats different for me. I would just put it to them never seeing it before and the culture shock it can cause. Even if her comment was a little sensitive im sure they read through all the comments that educate them and will never make the same mistake.

Keren Metz

Yes!! Yum. I agree. If you go to a Korean BBQ, you'll be introduced to banchan, small side dishes that may have two or three kinds of kimchi. And kimchi is considered a super food so it is good for you.

Audrey Ninina

Funny thing is that Taehyung couldn't cook for his life but was teaching Kim Bros at some point here but moreover years later after these cooking episodes he was casted on Jinny's Kitchen where he had to cook chicken etc 🤣🤣 Man is full of contradictions!

Keren Metz

Itaewon Class on Netflix will introduce you to a lot of different kinds of food as well. Plus it stars Park Seo-Joon (so swoon-worthy), who is Taehyung's friend and hyung.

Keren Metz

Yes, I love Jinny's Kitchen. I also watched Youn's Kitchen season 1 and 2 (pre-Taehyung).

Kath

I watched Youn’s Kitchen season 2 in Spain and Youn’s Stay but not the first season yet. I don’t know if you saw but I was happy to find out today in k-media that they are filming the second season of Jinny’s Kitchen in Iceland in March! Of course will feel Tae’s absence since he’s in the military and can’t film it but really looking forward to the second season now. 💜

Nikolina

Really ? ☺️ Is it going to be the same cast again ? Park seo joon and choi woo shik ? 🤭

Jechel Tenedero

"Man is full of contradictions" IKR. We all know he's not drinking coffee but 2024 came and he's endorsing a coffee brand 😂

Kath

They said in the articles that we’ll have to wait to find out during the broadcast who the staff will be… but likely to be Seo Jin, Yumi, Seo Joon and Woo Shik… we don’t know yet if there will be a replacement for Tae or just the four… 💜

Nikolina

Thats great news .Already excited for this. Maybe Tae could have filmed a cameo or something before he enlisted 💜💜

Kath

To be fair to Tae though the brand is famous for being a waffle house and a milkshake place too and Tae’s favourite drink from there is the honey citrus tea… also in S.K it’s a huge huge deal to be a brand ambassador for a coffee franchise… only the megastars do it like Son Heung Min etc so it’s something that can’t be turned down. Personally also I think cooking wise, Tae didn’t really need to step up and cook before as other members were good at it… but when he was out in an environment that required it and he put his focus on it he turned out to be really good. 💜

Alice Smith

I know this is off subject but l just watched "who is behind bts success" l saw it before but was thinking if they do a anniversary week in June this would be a great video..it shows the managers . Staff. Parents and ofcourse army..some of you patreons watch it and suggest it please. I feel like ccw would enjoy it..l send suggestions all the time but l don't know if they even see them.so l'm hoping if some of you suggest it too it may have a chance thank you.

Daniel--peel AWAY from your hands! > D

Nira

Same for me, I stopped for a second after seeing them laughing. Reminds me of my son as he was still little, I always told him not to laugh or making faces regarding food from other cultures, cause this is about respect. Even though you think that it looks weird, try not to laugh or show it. In my culture it's actually disrespectful and insulting .

drew

I was just watching your bring the soul reaction - remember that if Jungkook looks mad when drinking or eating that means the food is good

TheJessicaMorgn

Kimchi is such a good 반찬(banchan) /side dish. I always buy the cabbage kimchi and make kimchi fried rice, or eat it with ramen or samgyeopsal(boiled pork). I haven’t had radish kimchi but I’ve had radish as a side dish in like a vinegary type sauce and it’s soooo good and cleans your pallet after a strong tasting dish. Definitely recommend trying some popular korean dishes like bulgogi, japchae, samgyeopsal, or bibimbap.

Alice Smith

I've said this before as much as Daniel talks about researching things after they watch a video. Wouldn't it be smarter to do a little research on the subject they are about to veiw. And Summer puts her nose up on a couple other things and Abby can't stand the slurping..As Gabriel told her then you better not go to Korea that cracked me up.

But maybe y’all should watched a video on how make kimchi to better explain how and what is kimchi.

Alice Smith

Wow l can't beleive Summers remarks and her face..you really need to research korean food..most kitchens in Korea have an extra refrigerator for Kimchi..it lasts a long time..and if you pay attention to most shows they eat kimchi when ever they can. If someone watched Columbian food being made and kept making that EWE face Summer kept making lm sure you guys would be offended..just some friendly advice do some research before you call kimchi some type of soup with noodles.

Flip9880

I felt the same. Just brought back memories of bringing lunch to school and the kids would laugh and tell me it looked or smelt weird. I know they probably didn’t have any ill intentions because it’s something new for them but still made me feel sad.

Seneca

You guys spoil us with so many videos!! Haha. Thank you for two great drops today! 😊💜 Also, I love when the "Kim Brothers" are paired up on a team, haha. Poor Jin though lool

Nikolina

I love it when yoongi pairs up with jimin 😅😅😅 the opposite personalities and their bickering is my most favourite thing in the world 🙈

Seneca

LOL SAME!! I love the compilations of them titled like "yoongi/jimin bickering like an old married couple" hahah 😂

Nikolina

YEEEEEES . Honestly i dont know why but those videos warm my heart . Youngi's sarcasm and jimins cute but funny replies . THE BEST 💜

Saph

Hi there. I think you should cut summer some slack. You could see that they were learning about kimchi for the first time from watching the video. Besides they were not aware of what this run bts was all about so they could not have researched kimchi before hand. kimchi noodles are sold in stores in Texas and it could have been her first time seeing the word kimchi on a noodle pack, that was why she may have thought it was the noodles. I think it is okay for anyone learning about a new culture to make mistakes as far as they are genuinely curious. That is how we all learn. ✌️✌️💜

Vera Basler

Kimchi is a side dish that is eaten with so many different meals, that's why it's usually made in huge quantities. Usually the women in the family all get together and make Kimchi out of ten or more nappa cabbages, it usualy takes all day, because the paste has to be spread between each leaf. It's a tedious process, but the result is very tasty and the finished Kimchi lasts quite a long time in the fridge. It's a Korean staple, used as a side dish or as an ingredient for stews or fritters. You should go for Korean BBQ some time and have some Kimchi with it, it's delicious

Nanon ApoBangpo⁷

I actually dont like kimchi. I dont like the fishy taste. BUT I do love vegan kimchi. Its delicious. If you all do try kimchi you should grab this one too: Nasoya Authentic Korean Spicy Vegan Kimchi, 14 oz. Its the vegan one. Incase you dont like the original kimchi. Trust me it tastes fully different. And its not spicy at all. Lmao. I dont like spicy food and this isnt spicy. But its so frikkin good. Hahaha.

RachyOT7

Imagine US pickles…relish, sweet, dill, etc. It’s just cucumbers in seasoned water/vinegar. Similar idea except kimchi is super healthy (probiotics, etc because fermented) and can have fish or meat or be vegan. Different kinds/brands taste different. Just like hamburgers need pickles for extra deliciousness, usually some kind of kimchi is eaten as a side at every meal. That’s me. Edit: stop being mean in comments.😂 Red paste IS SCARY looking!

정쿠키🍪

In Korea, the whole family makes kimchi at once for a year. That's why it's common to put a lot of kimchi in such a big container. They showed it the same way. And when my mother makes kimchi, eating a slice of uncut kimchi next to her is a familiar scene that most Koreans have experienced.🙋‍♀️💜 A Korean who can't live without kimchi like Jimin✨️✨️

CJ

This was a fun watch! I say this with good intentions so hopefully you don’t misconstrue my point - I would love to see people not react so shockingly to other people’s cultural food. Asians (I’m South Asian myself) use our hands a lot. To mix, to eat, to do various things related to food. It’s a form of respect and love for food. I noticed in an earlier reaction as well your crew made rather discouraging faces when looking at food. I get it, there might be some food and practices from your culture and heritage I might find off-putting or “strange” - however, it’s my duty to understand and respect that just because I’m not used to experiencing it, it isn’t automatically bad or gross. Asians often get discriminating commentary about our food and how we eat, so this is a polite request to be mindful of your commentary related to food. Again, I know you had no ill intentions but I really wanted to point this out.

Megan

I'm ok with regular kimchi, but it's not my preference. I'll eat it if offered, but I wouldn't crave it. However, I did try some Cucumber Kimchi that I was surprisingly particularly fond of. I actually enjoyed it more than the Cabbage Kimchi. Weirdly refreshing, but with a spicy Kimchi seasoning. It shouldn't have worked as well as it did. I would 100% eat that again, if only I could find it.

maria??

Ahh I'm Mexican, but I love love love kimchi!! It's so yummy! Specially at kbbq with freshly grilled meat and a bowl of white rice! Super yummy. Kimchi soup with tofu and pork is also so so good. Def recommend you guys to give it a try!(:

Alice Smith

All lm saying is they read about the songs they are gonna reveiw why not read what the run ep. Is about before hand..and lm not the only critic here..there are a few commenting on Summers remarks were offending.

Bertha

I had such high hopes for Kimchi because I got introduced to it by BTS. I went to a sushi restaurant & had some and I did not like it at first. It’s a new food and it takes a while to get used to new flavors specially if you’ve never had it before. After the 3rd try I now love it & eat it with almost everything

Chloe

What happened to being honest with their reactions? Id rather see that than a calculated one.

nfam

thank you for this comment, i’m also south asian so i notice things like this in reactions as well

OhMai

Summer! Jungkook is one of the best cooks of the group! He cooks on his live, that’s why they always make him,Jin& suga the main cooks :)

OhMai

Also! Y’all, it’s ok to go and eat or experiment with Korean foods! I would’ve thought y’all would’ve been curious by now! Kimchi is farmented cabbage and other veggies. It’s rubbed in vinegar, salt, and mostly Gochujang! You get it free at every Korean restaurant! It’s kinda like a Mexican restaurants chips and salsa! Always comes free! But if a” sour-type vinegary” taste isn’t your fav I would recommend trying it in Kimchi-jjigae first. It’s like a red soup with tofu, meat&boiled kimchi!

OhMai

You went to a Chinese restaurant for kimchi? That’s the first red flag 😭 maybe try kimchi jjigae! It introduces your palette to the taste easier than regular cabbage kimchi.

Jacqueline

the best place to try kimchi is at a k-bbq restaurant. you get exposed to a lot of delicious side dishes. kimchi is sooooo good. it can be an acquired taste. not sure if y'all have tried "curtido" with pupusas?? pretty similar! essentially kimchi is like that. it's fermented (like sauerkraut) with salt but in Korea they add all the yummy spicy ingredients so it has a kick. but it definitely taste good with white rice, spicy bulgogi, or even in spicy kimchi jjigae. there are different kinds too! you can make it with cabbage or green onions.

Joudi Zaydan

Guys in the comments chill, it’s alright to give ur opinion on something, if something looked weird to u , u can say so. Because the kimchi in the making process looks like organs lol. Plus Summer did not insult Korea 😂 in fact if u watch the video till the end u will see them all saying they want to try it

Bertha

Yeah lol I definitely have to because it’s not the same in America no matter where you go

Jana

I laughed hard when Summer said it looked like an organ, the way they were holding/folding the cabbage 🤣🤣 and I'm an Asian 🤗🫠 and I loveeee kimchi fried rice 😁

Shreya

in this episode the kimchi paste was given to them (its not tomato paste fyi) but making the kimchi paste is really lot of work too and that radish kimchi needed to be fermented for some time for it to be eaten usually they let the freshly made kimchi to sit for some days for it to ferment and its eaten with other dishes all year long

LouCas27

I’m sure it wasn't malicious, but I also feel it's unfortunate.

Dananananae

Not you in everyone's comments. People have a right to express themselves respectfully especially if certain remarks comes across offensive. We all should be aware of others cultures and differences and try to be mindful when saying things and especially on a platform like this. Summer may have not said it maliciously but nonetheless I hope she is aware that to some it can trigger unpleasant feelings or may come across as offensive. And before you start saying but it is a genuine reaction, if we all could blurt out our genuine reactions freely then imagine how how many people we would offend. A little bit of thought goes a long way.

Dayi BV

People is always offended for everything. They are learning like everyone, and it's ok if they don't like some traditions or food. It's a natural reaction, so please, don't overreacting for everything 😴.

Ashlee

Thank you for the early run bts upload !!! 💜

Chloe

You and Alice would find any reason to be victimized anywhere thats why you're acting butt hurt about this. You subscribed to a channel where the hosts react to content they are not familiar with and the moment something is not at your standards you call them out for reacting that way?? She wasnt being rude even. She was 'reacting'. You know what goes a long way? Understanding that people have different backgrounds, preferences, irks. They could give an initial reaction to things that could trigger any random memory of theirs and that's okay. That's being human. They even said they want to try it now and even mentioned having it for dinner. Cut the IM OFFENDED act its getting corny.

Hoohaha

As a Korean, I realized that kimchi can be shocking for other countries by this video.. For me,( and i guess every other Korean) kimchi is so familiar. And making kimchi is also a tradition too. Hmm.. maybe.. I might react like this when I watch other countries food?

Nikolina

Also if i may add. People can definitely voice their opinions but as this is a react channel about columbian - americans reacting to kpop and k culture for the first time maybe being rude is not the best way. Im sure ccw reads comments and appreciate people who inform them and educate them on kimchi , language , and the culture in general. Explaining to them and to everyone the cultural significance of some of their comments makes this community try to be better and more considerate. Being rude just leads to more arguments. Only my thoughts

Faye Roz

KIMCHI IS SO GOOD. Definitely my fav korean dish especially Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi pork stew with tofu and enoki mushrooms). It took me a while to like kimchi, the first time tasting it will really caught you off guard but it's really good if you're someone who loves spicy sour food.

Dananananae

Wow, there is a reason the saying goes, " don't argue with a fool people might not notice the difference ". Continue to be your ignorant self and putting your two cents in everyone who has a different opinion to yours. I tried to make you see sense but you are beyond it, you can carry on to your hearts content peace!

ColombianCousinsAndWives

Hi friends! It’s Summer here. Wanted to say I meant no harm or offense by reacting to kimchi the way that I did ☹️ If you’ve been here a while you know that I have an overly expressive face, and it’s hard for me to hide my emotions. I react BIG and in a lot of ways. I’ve since learned many new things about kimchi…that was my first introduction to how it looked. And I meant no harm in laughing about how the big cabbages rolling around in the sauce looked rather “different”. I’m sure the process of them wearing gloves, using their hands, and using that huge bowl played with my mind…😬 Trust me when I say, the first time that Daniel’s mom served me a fish on a plate with the eyeballs still in there, I almost passed out of my chair. 😂 So know that after my initial reaction to kimchi, I had more understanding later on. A reaction is just that, understanding comes later. All in all, sorry for hurting any feelings. 💜

Koobi.

The ccw akgaes are coming out 💀 im here for bts ! & I’ve been defending them for 6+ years and will continue too. Even if I like ccw, as an army I will let my feelings known. If something feels offensive.

Cana

You are talking about understanding people have different backgrounds, preferences, irks and then telling someone they should not be offended over something…..do you see how that may be hypocritical. Just with how you don’t feel offended over this other people are allowed to be offended. It’s not playing the victim card. You have no idea about people experiences to prejudice and stereotypes. Things trigger people whether it’s a ‘big deal’ to you or not does not matter. Some army are simply trying to express their feelings and concerns. Let them say their peace and educate others. And from what I’m seeing in the comments…it is much needed

Anna Marie Aguirre

Haha it's alright, girl. I feel yah! Was not a fan of Kimchi before BTS and now I have it daily - probiotics and all. Gotta take care of that gut! With that said - we love you LOL. I am watching you guys long enough to know you did not mean any offense.

KumiKo

I love kimchi! I get my daily dose of probiotics from it, plus for me, it just makes any dish taste better! It’s considered one of the healthiest foods so you’re doing your gut a lot of favor by having a serving of kimchi (everyday). No wonder most Koreans have nice skin and age gracefully. it’s the clean gut! 😊 P.S. Hugs to Summer! it’s okay! 💜

Jana

Your big and genuine reaction are the reason I'm here. Hugggss Summer 🤗

Jana

It's midnight here and I'm craving kimchi jjigae now lol

lil meow meow

Can you please react to "i need you" remake by enhypen please

Minh

Not exactly correct comparison since Kimchi can also be eaten sometimes like a main course for some Koreans or vegans or in tofu soups, etc. Kimchi plays a a bigger part of a Korean meal than American meals when a lot of meals don’t involve side dishes of vegetables and other side dishes. Kimchi is a staple of most Korean diet but in the west there is no side dishes that is an important part of the meal like kimchi. In USA there is just a fusion melting pot of people so there is no one side dish that goes with almost every meal like Koreans eating kimchi.

saloooiiii

Why do people have to be so rude and then call it an "opinion" 🤨, we love you summer, don't pay attention to the mean comments

smilehoyaaaaa💜

Lol being introduced to new foods is always an interesting experience. I totally get you and I probably react the same way when I see new foods ☺️

Randi

fun episode! i am from kansas, and a friend of mine (from texas) was with her husband stationed in korea for a few years, and she got a job at a grocery store while there. she got exposed to so many new to her (and me) foods, including how many varieties and different kinds of veg and fruit there are. she's THE BEST to go to the local (kansas) korean restaurants because she knows all kinds of stuff to ask for. i've found that "regular" cabbage kimchi on its own is a bit too spicy for me. however cucumber kimchi is perfect for my spice tolerance (almost none). and american-ish equivalent to me is kinda like slaw with summer foods, and similarly you can have it several ways and as an accompaniment to other things. i've never had kimchi fried rice or soup but i very much look forward to trying it. another dish i've discovered and loved was fish cakes. i actually hate fish and anything fishy tasting... but i'm addicted to the fish cakes. i also tried dried crispy whole tiny fish (i can't remember what its called) from the korean grocery store and it was also good.

my local korean steakhouse does the thing where they bring lots of little sides. i've buddied up with a few servers (when they're happy to chat and not tired or in a rush) to ask about if/when different things are being served and if there is a schedule to it. like some days they have cabbage kimchi and other days its cucumber, or they might have a batch of something or other that they're serving the next week, etc. that way i can try to come out and try a variety of new to me things. i highly recommend!

as a person who lives in a rather secluded area (with very little exposure to korean food) i think this is part of the learning process! our current opinions compete with this new info and it's new to us and we've been trained to be wary of it sometimes. gochugaru (red pepper powder that is in the red mixture) is VERY red. i've never seen something so purely red before in my life lol so it's definitely a little jarring as someone who has never seen it before. what counts is the actions and thoughts after the first experience with the new thing-- you're okay Summer!

If you are looking for a way to try kimchi with a food you are already familiar with, I recommend kimchi grilled cheese. It’s one of my favorite comfort foods. There are tons of recipes on pinterest. I recommend green onion kimchi (pa-kimchi) or the more readily accessible cabbage kimchi (baechu-kimchi) with a hearty bread like sourdough and a good melting cheese like havarti, mozzarella, or gruyere. It’s *chef’s kiss. Warm and cheesy with a nice tang from the kimchi to give it some depth. The base of the red mixture they are using is called gochujang (hot pepper paste) and once you try it, you will be trying to add it to everything, it’s that good. Episodes like this where the members are cooking food they grew up with or playing games they did as kids or celebrating a Korean holiday really highlight why BTS received the order of cultural merit award. Not only do they spread their culture through their music, but they celebrate it and teach the world about it during Run BTS. ARMY learn about the regions they are from, national holidays like Chuseok, their school and work life culture, and their language just by watching these 7 boys goof off together. As someone who has spent many years seeing BTS in American or western interviews where they are forced to speak in English and asked the same questions over and over - What’s your favorite American food? What western artist would you want to collab with? What American musicians inspire you? Who’s your favorite Hollywood star? - interview after interview where BTS know and ARMY know the conversation has to center around western music and culture because no one’s interested in hearing about anything outside of that bubble…their “Korean-ness” is treated as a novelty; never something the wider audience/media is interested in understanding. So there’s just something really special about how the members let us experience their culture and backgrounds through content like this that I’ve only really grown to appreciate in the last few years.

Head to Koreatown in Carrollton and get some KBBQ - it's delicious and a group activity since you will be cooking at the table! You'll get kimchi along with a bunch of other side dishes (반찬 - banchan) along with your meats and rice. It's a nice way to sample a lot of Korean staples at once. For an intro to these foods, Gen is a great restaurant to try (but can get busy on weekends).

I love kimchi, the ones I've had were really spicy but the taste is so good. It's amazing with rice and fried pork

Reading through some of the comments and I actually learned a lot about Korean culture through BTS. They talk about their culture ALOT and some Korean phrases they use in conversations and songs can be researched! Kdramas and Korean documentaries are cool to learn from too

Bangtanlicious

Reading some more comments and it's pretty understandable that some ppl of a culture may feel offended by someone's reaction to the food of their culture. I've seen lots of westerners have this kind of exaggerated reaction to Asian and African/Carribean foods. Not saying she's a bad person for it tho! The one thing that did shock me was them mistaking radishes for potatoes lol

Danie Vasquez

Lol. Even I would've reacted that way with some of our food in the Philippines 🤣 some foods do look weird but tastes great! If felt offended, best to educate by informing especially when u know the person is learning it the 1st time. Feeling offended then proceeds to say offensive remarks is not the best way to introduce something to someone learning. Sometimes, it even turns away people. Use words kindly and create a healthy discussion, try to understand their POV as well and not full on being argumentative & critical. This should be a safe space. We chose to support them here so let's not attack them and each other. We can voice our opinions respectfully and teach.

I love K Dramas and I got into them just after discovering BTS. I love the historical ones and basically love all the different genres (so many to choose from). They are well acted and produced, I practically watch 80% -90% of MyTime on Korean drama and maybe 10-20% on Australian content. 💜💜💜💜

Having just spent 6 weeks in Korea I can tall you the food is amazing! I love Kimchi a side dish we got from nearly every meal and my favourites are Kimchi fried rice and Kimchi Pajeon (pancake). I tried all different foods including octopus bulgogi! In Australia Asian foods of all sorts are well loved, thanks to our multi cultural country! 💜💜💜💜

Having spent 6 weeks in Korea recently I was lucky to try many different Kimchis though the cabbage one is the most common. Every meal we had 4-8 side dishes which included Kimchi. I tried many things that I haven’t tried before including Octopus Bulgogi! I am sure when; I saw the whole octopus my face was a picture. I still enjoyed it though. We even went to a Kimchi festival in Gwangju, J Hopes home town. I love Korean food it is so healthy and delicious. We go to Korean restaurants here often as there are many here in Perth Western Australia. If you get a chance do go to one. 💜💜💜💜

It’s okay, Summer!! We love you and your expressive reactions :) 💜 (i’m the same way too and my first time being exposed to kimchi was similar LOL)

im sure it was just a comment meant like an observation. in bts's song "ugh" there is a lyric that compares organs/insides to a korean food called "jeotgal" so it's not a very far observation. i've been watching CCW since they started and i assure you guys they really try to be respectful to BTS and korean culture. :D just a reminder that they're on this discovery journey and there are things we can help them understand! on a lighter note, i HIGHLY RECOMMEND going to a kbbq place where it's possible that you would encounter the food that they're eating/cooking!

I really don't like most kimchi ... unsurprising, since I don't really care for vegetables and I also don't like spicy food, lol. I had some raddish kimchi that was really good, once, though. I was sad to find out most Korean places in my area don't offer raddish kimchi.

Ashleyder

Run BTS is intended to be for fun, not a research experience. It isn't reasonable to expect them to research the episodes beforehand. They didn't even know the episode was going to be about kimchi when they started it, and that's fine! They DID Google what kimchi was before getting into the episode.

Summer girl! Trust me it’s all good! I watch tons of YouTube vloggers who go to different countries and try the food there and their reaction is what makes the video! Sometimes they love it, sometimes they compare it to something else but they are being real and genuine. I would not want you to worry too much and just be yourself! We love you 💜💜💜 this was a fun video and don’t pay mind to a few comments here who are getting offended.

Someone help CCW when they go to Korea so they can taste the food and enjoy the sights.

looks like this isyour first time seeing kimchi or making kimch process!! congratulations ^^~ I made kimchi and scallion kimchi. Summer asked how to make the kimchi paste. We used 2 different kidns of Korean red chilli powders, fish sauce, salted shrimp, giner, and alittle bit of bone broth. garlic, salt, etc of course. There are more than 100 kinds of kimchi, and every region has different styles too. depending on what food they're known for. so cities near the coast will add more seafood oysters or squid or mouttain areas will add more variety of other vegetables ane make them very colorful. There are also "summer" kimchi, typically cucumbers or white kimchi in vinegar-ish liquid and not only eat the white kimchi but also drink the liquid too like water. So a little bit of kimchi history here. Korea did not have a lot of food back in the days. like hundreds of years ago. so every winter, village people would make kimchi together and share it. (Korean cultural thing, not just kimch but just all kinds of food, very communal) THey make a bunch of kimchi, put them in big clay jars, keep them in the bakcyard, and and eat them throughout winter. This has become a tradition to this date. My cousin and her co-workers will do this every winter and deliver them to needy families/seniors who live alone, like in the begining of December. But it IS A LOT OF WORK, so loooots of Korean just buy kimchi too. Almost all Koreans have a kimchi refrigerator :) When kimchi goes sour (after months) then this is the best to make kimchi fried rice or kimchi pork stew. okay, now i'm getting hungry. ^^;

Y’all are a bunch of of dramatic crybabies who find any and everything to be offended about 😂🤦🏾‍♀️

Rachel Hernandez

Lol that's a very normal reaction! Don't mind the dramatics!

Velle

Tae doing little side quests in every cooking episode 😂
