Hola Primos!

Welcome back for another Friday with your favorite COUSIN! It's just Daniel today. Gabriel wasn't able to make it in to record so your stuck with a solo cousin this Friday. 😅

Today I am watching ATLA The Movie. I was really pumped (yes, true story 😅) to watch this since we had completed our Avatar run now was the perfect time to fit this in. It was interesting trying to understand some of the direction taken on this movie. And yes this is a nice way of me saying, I felt physical pain during this reaction 😬 😁.

Either way, take a seat, grab some popcorn and a pillow (for when you doze off), because we are going to be here awhile! Enjoy everyone!

PS - Yes of course we know all about the Avatar Live Action Netflix series and as we announced last week, we're excited to be checking that out on a new channel. 😊

You seemed to be caught between disbelief and cringing for this whole reaction, and I don't blame you. When I realised M Knight Shayamalan made the fire nation some sort of anime South Asian Roman nation I cried laughing. It's one of few jokes that really landed in this film. That and the bending moves🤣

okay now i remember why I didn't like this movie when I saw it in theaters when it first released.... 1. the name pronunciation difference to the show; 2. how they portrayed fire and earth bending... though I had hoped in the Book for fire they would have explained why all fire benders use fire sources all around them because they have forgotten how to bend naturally... aka when Zuko and Aang go to the sun village and do the ancient sun dance together and Zuko learns that anger isn't the only emotion he could get fire from; 3. I actually liked how they portrayed the scene where aang goes into the spirit world and creates that water spirit to help fend off the fire nation when it got dark; 4. I also liked how they kinda portrayed the moon spirits scene; 5. I greatly dislike how they've changed Zuko's look (I mean his scar from his father on his face isn't even that visible only in certain angles... Zuko from the show had a more visible scar similar to Shoto Todoroki has on his face given to him by a family member) 6. I dislike Sokka a lot in the beginning of the movie the dialogue isn't good for him and his humor is nonexistent; 7. I also disliked how they had to speed up the time frame of the movie with the show's chronological order. If you haven't seen the show than the movie by itself would be very confusing and even though I've seen the show multiple times when I watched the movie in theaters from time to time I got lost in the pacing of the source material. 8. Also I disliked how they portrayed the "Earth Bending Prison Camp" on solid ground.. the whole point of having the prison on a metal ship in the middle of the ocean was so the earth benders had nothing to use to bend.. until they realized they could bend the metal of the ship. 9. I mention the pacing again because they used mostly montages to show the passing of time and didn't dive into Aang actually getting to know the people he's helping to save from the fire nation; so the "Saving the world through the hearts" from grandma at least to me doesn't feel sincere 10. I will say on a positive note I liked that they got a child actor who actually knew karate or another form that works for air bending moves and he was an resound champion in his world
