I was tempted to "cheat" and sample/bitcrush a Choir Aah sample (similar to Phantasy Star 4 and Ristar), but I thought it would be more fun to try and make a Choir Aah with FM Synthesis

Funny you say that as I actually did use the instrument from that game lol. but if you analyse that ost in a vgm player /winamp, you will hear that the effect is created by overlapping the instrument 3 times and each one playing with different pitch and vibrato. The patch on its own doesn't actually sound like a choir it's the FM sorcery of Hitoshi Sakimoto. I tried my best to mimic what he did but it proved really difficult
