Between Failures had a very strange production start.  It was a mish mash of ideas and some things got abandoned.  There was going to be much more  focus on the paranormal.  Carol started out as is different character that eventually got named Gail and moved to another fictional universe.  I had designed several characters with black hair already so I changed this Gail character to be more like the daughter of a previously used character.  She became redheaded because I like the particular shade of her hair very much.  Her surname comes from these old paranormal vestiges where she was the descendant of gravekeepers.  There were unnatural powers & all sorts of ridiculous nonsense I realized I couldn't draw with my postcard sized tablet.  Things shifted and shifted until I finally scrapped basically everything and slotted the characters in to a movie script.  It saved me having to come up with new names for everything.  It's also why the fictional town the story is set in is named Marbleton.  A Marble Town is an outdated name for a graveyard.  This older version of Carol is basically identical to her sister Robin, minus the bags under her eyes.

Always interesting to see how character ideas and stories evolve. Though technical/budgetary limitations often wind up being the main the driver. Also didn’t know that little factoid about marble towns. Neat.

Is that how Carol got her last name?

Matthew Speidel

Truly lovely, though she looks like she needs a hug. <3

This gal could be her own character. She's distinctively different enough from Carol

Looks like Carol's younger sister..

Detective Whiskers

Great bit of background trivia. I really like her design and the name.
