Several places have changed tax laws so depending on where you are your pledge might be more expensive now. I think it’s not gonna affect many people because of how I set things up, but who can say? Since I don’t sell a product & you just get access to extras we’re mostly exempt. In any case Patreon probably sent you an email. They sent me a bunch. This takes effect tomorrow so I guess we’ll see. Anyway I just thought I’d warn you in case you ignore all the correspondence from Patreon. I wouldn’t blame you if you did

I didn’t see that so thanks for the heads up. You still have my support

Don't think it's changing for me, VAT's been 25% with no exemptions here since '92, and last I checked Patreon had all my pledges listed at that. What was annoying was that at least in the past it registered the VAT based on nationality of IP address, so if I'd signed up or changed pledge while at work, I'd get the wrong rate (and paid to the wrong country) because of where the corporate proxy server exits. Perhaps the changes are related to fixing that?

Government never saw a pot of money it didn't want to skim some off of. I guess it means Patreon's big enough to be considered a "pot of money"...

Nope. Countries that have been charging continue to charge, and the tagging of where to send the money to has to be based on your IP address location unless you actually tell the company paying the tax where you live. (What do you *mean* it's on your payment information? How could that possibly work?) So that little issue's going to stay with us until saner heads are in control^W^W^W^W^W^Wforever.

This is a lot bigger than Patreon. Patreon is actually just a "this also affects" list item. This is more about Netflix and similar companies who do business entirely online and some governments have missed until now. I find it interesting that they've not found a way to skim some money off of the Scientologist pot by now.
