Patreon just decided to mess with the charges to pledges, which I can't explain from my bed, in any case you guys are paying more. I'm sorry for that even though it's beyond my contro. Before you pull your support in anger I would like you to consider that for me at least patreon makes it possible for me to make the comic. If your support goes so does it.  Advertising online right now is only a third as profitable as it was six months ago and can no longer support me or my work. Hopefully they will sort things out before they ruin the system. In any case I'm sorry I can't offer more to make your pledge that much more valuable. I wanted them to be a dollar and that's it, but I'm not the one in charge...

...I only see a single possible reward, its value is still the same as I recall from the past, what I pledge has not changed, so far, so I don't know. Gotta check what happens tomorrow, but I don't see a problem.

Patreon is restructuring their fees so Patrons rather than Creators pay the fees. Each individual pledge carries a fee of 2.9% + $0.35 If you pledge $1, it will be charged as $1.38 (most likely). If I’m reading it correctly, that means each Creator you back costs you at least $0.38 more than it used to.

If they only charged a passthrough fee from what the credit cards charge, I'd be less concerned about it. The fact that they're charging $0.35 per creator that we support is a bit absurd. The difference between those two for me is $3.50 for the passthrough option, to $31 for the individual pledge charges.

(It kind of flies in the face of all of the things that Patreon, and other microtransaction services were supposed to be about, really.)

No worries mate. I'm not going anywhere.

More "NSFW" pages and i wont mind the "increase". (ok, i'm a perv, sue me)

Benjamin Hower

You have my support regardless.

I can't for the life of me figure out why they thought this would be welcomed by creators or supporters. I like to spread a bit around a bunch of creators, with the reasoning being that the CC fee is only applied to the one charge and then they spread it proportionally across however many it is. If I'm going to be charged the fixed fee for *each* pledge, I'll be seeing a *significant* increase in cost. And I can't see that going anywhere other than their own pockets. I can afford these changes, no problem, but it's going to scare away lots of people on tighter budgets. Every creator I've seen talk about this was preferring to get stuck with variable processing fee percentages month to month, rather than scaring away the small contributors, who are still better than nothing, and might over time pledge more.

Removed my unfortunate adblock, I should have done it sooner. I have my own reasons to use one, but denying my favourite artists and webcomics of revenue isn't one of them.

I'm not going anywhere, but I have had to delete pledges to some other creators because of this change. I can't believe Patreon says they want to help creators get more money when all this is going to do is cause people to support fewer creators or leave the platform altogether.

I"m not going anywhere.

It seems Patreon is trying to make everyone upset

I can drop another dollar or two a month to support the artists i do, i have no problem paying the credit fees, and from a business standpoint, i can see exactly why they did it, and i don't blame them. Business models and restructures are nessicary, especially for a company that's basically taken over community support projects, ad revenues are way down across the internet, so everyone is pushing to use patreon more and more. The result has been an influx of new business, that they possibly weren't modeled to handle, so they had to restructure, to adapt.

They are trying to drive away most of the supporters so they can go out of business. Keep Hatreon in mind (I think their name is a jab at Patreons censorship policies).

I'm staying - and cos I use an adblocker, I doubled my payment.

No worries, Jackie, I'm still here. I'm glad you let us know, though, cause I probably wouldn't have known til I got the bill.

NeoChomik

I'm with those guys who will keep pledging. Just because Patreon changes the fees policy, doesn't mean i dont want to support my favourite creators anymore. If anything i will see the damage done to my wallet before i start adjusting how much money i can give.

Miles

Mind You - Jackie if you find a different way for us to contribute without so many fees, I will be delighted to pay you more (but still not as much as your work is worth I'm afraid.)
