Announcement (nasty exit reviews) (Patreon)
Content
This is not motivating to hobby writers.
I try not to address the negativity because I am so floored by the amount of positivity and wonderful people here. Please don’t feel as if I don’t appreciate the great sides of sharing what I write as I address these exit reviews.
I’m only approaching this because of the massive influx of these sorts of exit reviews in the past two months. I left Wattpad to get away from comments like these and the toxic environment present on that site.
Patreon is about creator support. If you’re here expecting quick updates, please leave now. I really don’t mind. Most writers don’t mind! Do I want this person above (or the other reviewers like them) to come back? No. Do other writers? No.
The rate at which I update fluctuates from month to month. Some months are better than others. This review, in particular, is undoubtedly talking about Black Velvet, a story that I prioritize.
There are complaints that I have too many stories. Black Velvet is almost eight years old, and it’s hard to rework a story that old into something I’m proud of. It’s also eight years old, so I want to work on other things, as well.
I am on Patreon because the readers here are lovely, and the financial aspect of it helps me to be able to devote more time to writing without the guilt and financial constraints. I no longer need a second job, thanks to Patreon.
I am a full-time parent and a full-time worker.
The majority of Patreon readers are the friendliest, warmest people I will ever meet, and I love and appreciate everything you do for me. But, if you’re like the reader above or share the sentiments they do, unfinished books aren’t for you. That’s totally okay. There are plenty of finished books out there.
I spend a lot of time on each chapter. I also, due to experience and needing to rewrite chapters, do not post unless I’m happy with a chapter. I have a lot more confidence in myself than I did a year ago when I left Wattpad, and I don’t think about these comments much anymore.
The reason I’m addressing it is to let people here know, before they feel as if they’ve wasted their money, that I’m not on a set schedule. Some months are better than others as far as updates, but I have different tiers to tend to and different books to work in, and most importantly, I am human.
The beauty of Patreon is that you can leave at anytime. You can come back at anytime. You can change your tier at anytime.
I see this discourse everywhere about hobby writers who put their unfinished books online and the absolute hostility it invites while readers wait for updates. It’s worse if a hobby writer asks for financial support.
So — if it makes you angry to wait for my updates, unsubscribe. Don’t think a nasty comment is going to slow my hectic life so that I can spend every second producing chapters.
Don’t find yourself disappointed and out two dollars. Buy a finished book, and leave this Patreon page a healthy and happy environment like it has been so far.
Thanks to everyone else, new and old, that’s just along for the ride. I really do appreciate you. I’m not trying to come across rude, but I would like to filter out the ugliness now. Thanks! ❤️
(also stop calling me a she. thanks)
