Crafting Material, Rare

All things the sun touches are blessed by the light. You can read that line on the walls of most temples in the realm. But some things are born in the dark, far from the grasp of the brighter star. Khuro is one of those things.

Discovered by the Drow, this metal quickly became one of the most vital resources of the ancient kingdom of Tikhalomonus. Strong as Iron but light as a piece of wood, Khuro was used to build deadly weapons for the Drow's army during the Dark Sun's war. But there was one thing they needed to learn about this magic material.

Khuro ores appear only in the darkest caves; as long as they remain there, they'll stay strong and resistant. But the metal quickly becomes fragile and weak in the presence of sunlight. After studying the material, I developed an enchantment to capture the mere essence of darkness within the ore, which worked perfectly. Once embraced by the darkness, the metal lost its sunlight sensitivity and became particularly prone to shadow magic.

Proficiency Needed

To craft an item using Khuro, you must have proficiency in Smiths Tools. To remove the sunlight sensitivity from the metal, you need access to the Darkness spell and use Arcana to properly seal the spell effect within the item.

If you fail to enchant the material with darkness, it will have all its magical effects normally, but in the presence of sunlight, every time the item suffers any impact, you must roll a D20. In a roll lower than 10 the item shatters and loses all its magical properties.

Know uses

Because of the incredible resistance of the metal compared to its weight, Khuro was mainly used to build fortified strongholds, weapons, and armor. After the drow artificers learned my enchantment, they used it to build several artifacts of war that bend and control shadows while protecting the wielder.

I used Khuro to craft the Skuggalord set for the king of Tikhalomonus. The set uses shadow magic to take advantage of the magical properties of the metal. It is composed of a Medallion, a Helmet, and a Sword.
