Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement)

This Helmet is one of three artifacts that together compose the Skuggalord Set. In ancient times this set of items was given to the king of Tikhalomonus, an ancient drow kingdom that fell during the Dark Sun’s war.  Separately each of the items has its own abilities, but only when a single creature attunes to all three items do the artifacts awaken their true powers.

Shadow Meld. While you are wearing this helmet in dim light or darkness, you can use your action to meld into your own shadow and become invisible. The invisibility lasts for 1 minute, or until you make an attack, cast a spell or use a bonus action to dismiss this effect.

Shadow Clone. Once a day, as a bonus action, you can touch your shadow and pull it to the material plane. Away from you, the shadow is a shapeless force. The closer it gets to you, the shadow becomes more defined and similar to your shape. While the shadow is within 100 feet of you, you can communicate with it telepathically.

The shadow uses the Shadow stats block but can't Attack. It acts independently of you, but it always obeys your commands. It can perform simple tasks that don’t require a corporeal body, such as following someone, keeping watch, and searching for something. In Combat, it shares your Initiative. The shadow remains in the material plane for 1 hour until it is destroyed, or you dismiss it.

Dance of Shadows. While you and your Shadow Clone are at 5ft from each other each time a creature Targets you with an Attack, roll a d20. If the result is 11 or higher, the Attack instead Targets the Shadow.

Shadow Hunger (Awaken State only). You can call on the power of the helm and speak its command word. All shadows within 100ft. are absorbed and contained within you for 10 minutes. During that time, you become one with the darkness and nearly impervious to damage. You gain resistance to all damage that isn’t Radiant, Force, or Psychic.

While the effects of the Shadow Hunger are active, when you use the Shadow Clone ability, you summon 1d10 Shadows instead. In Combat, they are friendly towards you and your allies, obey all your commands (no action required), roll their own Initiative, and can attack normally.
